Had to read up a bit on that DWPD, thought it was something like 1800 writes (~365 * 5) but it's actually the full storage of the drive itself so 50 TB a day for 5 years? Must be pretty reliable to be capable of handling that. What does it... Oh. Ha ha.
most likely their pricing will not include a traditional form of currency but most likely their price list will be more like .... 25tb model 1x kidney...etc etc not for the average user but looking forward for the time those kind of capacities on nand drives will be in the prosumer price ballpark !
And I was so happy with my new WD 3Tb Blue for backup, I have it on an external enclosure turned off 2/3 full. The average consumer won't need that much for years. The 50Gb is at least $20k worth in components.
Consumer-grade 4TB SSDs range from $1600 - $2600. 4TB SAS SSDs are around $4000. So, that's roughly $1/GB in a best-case scenario. Assuming that price point would be linear (which it wouldn't be) that means one of these 50TB drives would be a bare minimum of $50,000. On the other hand, you'd save a lot in shipping costs, compared to buying dozens of smaller SSDs. :wanker:
At 500mb/s Maximum writing Speed it would take 29 hours to write 50 TB. So it can technically manage one drive write per Day ))
