Wasn't Crysis 1 considered as a photo-realistic game, or at least the engine?

It's the standard phrase for all new ICT developments, yet seldom true lol

I really don't care less about photorealistic games. I want games to be an escape from reality, that's why I play them. Why would I want to be playing a game that looks the same as the outside world? I might as well just not bother....

So what??? Unless AI and physics manage to catch up with graphics, photorealism in videogames is going to be useless...

Its nearly what he said, or at least, he was speak about photorealism environnement... for AI ( maybe the bigger next things ), well it will take more time.

Note, photorealism have allways been possible, just developpers take a bit of a different road.( something more in the movies and animation style )

It would be nice if the folks who develop games would invest some of their precious time developing some new games for a change and stop focusing on the graphics. It's reached the point where every game that comes out is the same format. The only thing different is the title and the scenario but the gameplay and interface are all the same thing. Anyone for a round of "Assassin's Honor" or perhaps "Aliens: Modern Warfare"? How about "Need for Creed"?

I can honestly say I had more fun with my 64K computer games back in the 80's than I have with A LOT of the crap being marketed today that requires gigs of HD space due to the awesome graphics they contain.

Way to many pessimistic people here.

Games like Skyrim, Mass Effect and Bioshock prove that you can have awesome graphics and still keep game play and story alive.

Also photorealistic graphics =/= earth simulation. Skyrim takes a photorealistic approach but stylizes it it's own way, plus it has dragons, which last time I checked weren't on Earth. If Tim Sweeney can make UE5 or whatever generate ultra photorealistic games (where taking a screenshot is near indiscernible between IRL and the game) with the ease of development found in UE3 UDK, then by all means I support his vision.

They can do pretty much photo realistic games now if the hardware was not so weak.

One assumes you are aware 15-20% increase in FPS/generation is not actually the best Nvidia can do, it's the smallest incremental advance they can get away with, maximizing long term profits and compensating by adding new useless features.

The Original Mortal Kombat had photorealistic characters and Links golf on the PC and Amiga was photorealistic.:nerd:
Arma 3 is not far off either.

Can even add to it, flight simulation who was use sat. photos as ground "textures".. on high altitude, and looking at the ground, well you had exactly what can be seen from a plane, on low altitude the result was absolutely horrible.

This is said ever 10 years and every 10 years disproved.

High budget Movies that use CGI in there films that have PC farms rendering this stuff still cant do it. What chance do a single CPU/GPU? barring some revolution in tech happening
