Just remember that OC is on LN2. You can get from 1450-1500 max most likely on air and on water 1500+ on some good chips. But not that high. And mind you that is still reference board with unlocked BIOS.

I think you are being a bit to optimistic. I would say 1400 on air. Mid to low 1400's for water-cooled. 1500, you will need dry ice, LN2 or phase cooling.

Nah you won't need those for 1500. I've see 1500mhz on water already. Albeit volt modded but possible. I took the things I said from the guy who clocked the card to 1700mhz on ln2. Since the stock cooler handles 1.25v and AIB could handle bit more.

1400-1500 is the range for air cooled depending on how good sample one gets.

Even hilberts rx 480 reference clocked to 1375mhz.

Yeah i see the 1480MHz on WC also with no BIOS Mod.
I can only be sure about XFX DD Black it will go >1450MHz on Air with 8-pin
We can only imagine now what can be achieved with good AIB design.
    Look at ASUS Strix :flip2:

If you need hard core hardware mods to reach 1500 Mhz it will not happen with custom cards and most definitely not with air only. Custom cards will clock tiny bit better than reference cards (like always) but that's about it. We should expect ~1,4 GHz overclocks at max in my opinion. At least for the majority.

Yeah that mod was done because the bios did not support any higher voltages at the time and to pass the pci-e slot so the draw would be focused on the 6 pin.

I would expect 1400+ with reference board and proper cooling. 1425 I think is highest I've seen the reference crap going with air so far. While most are running 1350-1375 with the blower because else it would throttle and result in worse performance. That is w/o volt mods tho.

But I just took words out of someone else's mouth that said golden samples 1500 and max 1450 on air. Water tad more or the same.

Agreed. Some people went over the top hyping the 480 up. We don't need that again.

But oh well we will see when the cards come out. Supposedly Powercolor devil has boost clock of 1400mhz.

It's not the first time when AIB squeezes everything out of binned binned chips. *cough* Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz Edition *cough* mine had basically zero overclocking head room and some where even unstable out of the box.

That sounds like a "nice" card. At least I got erhm. 70mhz more out of my 290x which was 1030mhz...

That being said it ran at so high clocks out of the box that it was basically equal to reference GTX 780 Ti. Still, the point is that the custom cards may be running near the max.

If this card had gddr5x it would be quite a bit faster. So bandwidth starved it seems. And the ROPs man the ROPs!

But good stuff anyway. Taking forever with the custom boards still.
