It sure is dude, no doubt you'll have more luck than i as your running an OC'ed i7, think my CPU is holding me back. Getting a strange unigine score too :(

Remove all cards apart from the one that needs flashing.

It may be easier just to pull out the power plugs of the card you don't want to flash. That works for my 460's

Pretty sure theres nothing there to unlock in the 6970, its only because AMD didn't have those last remaining 128Shaders laser cut that dave was able to get them unlocked through the BIOS as it was with the BIOS that AMD locked them.

This looks really interesting. After my failure to make x2 6850's work with my setup i might pick a 6950 up instead.. I just don't want any more problems. Id hate to get a card that doesn't work using this method :/

Has anyone tried Gigabyte yet? I'm wondering about this card in particular:

    GIGABYTE GV-R695D5-2GD-B Radeon HD 6950 2GB

Dose this unlock work with the 6850 to turn it into a 6870?

    Hey guys,

I will be testing the XFX varient of the 6950 in the next few days just waiting for it to arrive!

    XFX - HD695ACNFC
    XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E

I have noticed on XS forums someone posted that the XFX varient is working, so I will dbl confirm and upload the BIOS to techpowerup once verified working!.

    *edit*
anyone looking for stock of these cards and are possibly worried about AMD fixing the issue, there is an abundance for canadian customer's at ncix.com

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57630&vpn=HD695ACNFC&manufacture=XFX

    Cheers,

    klex

I used the Amd generic bios that techpowerup had posted and it seems like the card doesn't control the fan very well, because im idling at 55C and during Medal of Honor (the fan stays around 30%) max settings my computer will just shut off and the gpu fan will shoot up to 100%. I'm using the 880core 1375 memory tunings. I even tried 3d mark 11 and the same thing happened.

I'd hate to think my case was overheating because I have the HAF332, very clean, and pretty stacked with fans.

are you running afterburner? it sounds as though powerplay isnt working mate, check gpuz sensors to see if your running @ 250mhz core.

Just wanted to drop a quick thank you to Dave for making my long weekend more fun. XFX 6950 modded without a hitch and stable at stock 6970 clocks.

no problem dude, couldnt have been done without zolkorn and pyr0 messing with their 6970's yesterday morning, so glad i stumbled accross the thread and REALLY glad I didnt mind borking the card for that short moment of madness, I remember flashing my 5850 with a 5870 bios for higher ranges, my heart was in my throat lol.
