I am thinking about my latest upgrade. Im not gonna upgrade the cpu as im happy with my i5-750 @ 4GHz and not thinking about changing it till socket 2011 comes out, so ive been thinking about upgrading the GPU, will i see much improvement if i was to change my 5850 for a 6950. Or is the 6950 just a new revision of the 5850.
    Thanks

I would keep your 5850. You won't see a performance difference except on very few games that you probably won't be playing(Metro, Crysis?). Wait for the next gen I say. Should be better worth the upgrade by then.

Sorry not answered any questions as my daughter was taken into hospital.
The game i play are mainly MOH and Bad Company 2 with HAWX 2 chucked in for good measure.
The reason i asked the original question is because around this time of year, with christmas out of the way i tend to upgrade. Im more than happy with the setup i have at the moment even the GPU, but the upgrade bug is starting to itch.
Maybe ill look else where for an upgrade maybe SSD or a hybrid. But i know that im not gonna upgrade my i5 as im more than happy with that.

Unless you plan on unlocking/overlocking the 6950 I wouldn't. With my 975/1200 overclock, my Sapphire 5850 outperforms a stock 6950 in almost every scenario (save for Tessellation heavy stuff). I'm definitely skipping this generation refresh and probably waiting until at least the fall or even 2012.

Im using a 5850 at 1080p at the moment in every game and im able to play them all in the highest settings with good smooth framerates..... I see no reason to upgrade to a card that does the exact same job at a higher framerate which I would barely notice.... games aren't progressing as fast as GPU's at the moment and probably won't for a good while. Save the money you were going to spend now and wait until something big hits then you can really splash the cash :)

    Nice avatar btw ;)
