June? What's the delay? Do they need more time to laugh about how they have no competition and about how suckers will rush to buy defective chipsets?

Hopefully some fixed chipsets will be out by the end of June, I'm tired of waiting.

I can't wait until my first ultrabook. I'm going with Haswell.

Not a big enough performance increase over the current core chips to justify upgrading for me but it is exciting to see processors etched in 22nm

To be exact, 38.625 days :)

I'm surprised that Intel doesn't have a site with a countdown timer?

14nm is next year, it'll come with Broadwell. Skylake will come the following year also on the 14nm process. It won't be until at least 2015 we'll see 10nm with Skymont :)

AMD really will be hurting since currently they'll still be on 28nm when Intel moves to 14nm. It looks like AMD will be on 20nm when Intel moves to 10nm...

Next year...bummer, I had hoped for a shrinkage this year too.

Can't do yearly process shrinks. Processor prices would skyrocket if they did due to the tooling and R&D costs...

Yes I know that...I just haven't kept myself up to date with CPUs that much, because compared to GPUs, SSDs its quite boring.

That isn't really an AMD problem per se, they no longer have a fab, they're at the mercy of fab companies like GlobalFoundries and TSMC to develop smaller transistors. It has been widely known that Intel usually leap frogs everyone in the fab game.

Intel's currently the only fab that's equipped to fab 22nm processors at the moment. AMD has now transitioned over to half nodes (as evident with 28nm vs. its previous choice with 32nm full node). By using half nodes, it helps save R&D costs at both the designer and the fab before the fab can hit the full node shrink.

It seems like GlobalFoundries and TSMC haven't yet figured out how to fab at 22nm yet and may likely rather do half node shrinks than full node shrinks.

Most GPUs and SoCs use half node shrinks than full node shrinks.

Is it worth it if you already have a 3570k laying around ready for a new build? Thinking of selling but Haswell would certainly need to OC better. Also will the z87 chipset require PLX 8747 for tri/quad GPU setups?
