Hello all, As the title says it all, I want to ask that will Radeon 4800 series will actually support new Dx 11 ? which is introduced by 5800 series. I am asking this because I purchased my 4870 about an year or so and so far the card is serving me greatly, with all my games running smooth as silk in solid resolutions. I don't really want to invest in a new graphics card just now but I also want to try out the new Dx 11 games in Dx 11 mode. So is my 4870 good to go with Dx 11 ? Thanks folks.
No. but don't worry about DX11 either it will take a good like 6 months to pump a good few proper DX11 games out
Alrightie thanks for the info maybe after 6 months or few more months the price of 5800 series will come down or maybe they will come down sooner than that as Nvidia will release something new.
There's no way that older hardware support newer standard if doesn't have the hardware resources, as radeon 2xxx series can't support dx10.1 even if it's a small change.
It supports some basic features, but not real features that are the selling point of dx11 such as tesselation.
Actually they do, http://blogs.amd.com/play/tag/tessellation/ As to how well it will work remains to be seen.
That tesellation implementation differs from dx11 tessellation, so stays dormant in series 2000 to 4000, and will stay dormant forever now that has changed in r800.
Wrong. http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2008/09/17/directx-11-a-look-at-what-s-coming/3 Nevermind the core changes that DX11 introduced (new shader model, etc). The 4000 series is 10.1, thats their max, period.
Guys don't forget Compute Shader Radeon 4800 will support Compute Shader 4.1 Compute Shader 5.0 is reserved for "real" DX11 hardware though.
MS claimed during the development of DX11 that DX9 and DX10 hardware would not prevent the use of DX11, though you'd see a performance penalty. MS claimed that all DX11 features would be available to those of us using DX9/DX10 hardware through the use of an emulation feature, which as they explained, would allow the CPU to handle the DX11 specific "features", while a DX10 capable GPU handles the DX10 features.....or the CPU would handle the DX10/DX11 features, while a DX9 capable GPU handles the DX9 features. Whether this is true or not....I don't know because there's no DX11 games for me to test with. BTW, simply downloading the Aug 09 DX update, does NOT give you DX11.
