    The light bulb
    [IMG]

Under the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act, only bulbs that meet certain energy-efficiency standards may be manufactured in or imported into the United States.
Incandescent bulbs cannot possibly meet those standards, and so they are, for all intents and purposes, prohibited. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/17/light-bulb-ban_n_4460979.html

I was curious to know what you guys/gals think about this and if any other Countries have done this? Thanks:)

Well, it's still his invention, because any form of electrical light commercially viable can be traced back to the Edison light bulb invention :)

Yea it's getting more difficult to find filament bulbs here too (UK) you can still get them I think, but most places are stocked with energy saving bulbs

Old school bulbs are brighter but energy saving ones are slowly catching up, and I use the energy saving ones anyway, because they save energy :D or should I say, money

Or when they removed cocaine from coca-cola, and heroin from chemist shelves

I agree, assassinations require good lighting

I still prefer Halogen bulbs. I have a desk lamp that's as bright as the sun.

Over here in the UK there's a move afoot to make us use energy-saving bulbs which give off less light than a red-hot nail.
That's why I eagerly buy packs of six 100w bulbs whenever I see them in the likes of ALDI.

I was under the impression he just improved the electric light bulb the only real invention he has to his credit is the electric chair (that was invented to prove Tesla's AC current was more dangerous than the DC current he was championing).

EDIT a good set of CFL's will be brighter than an old school bulb they just take a bit to "warm up". My problem is now every bulb in you house will contain mercury.

Well, the first commercially viable light bulb that would last a while because of carbonized Bamboo was invented by Edison...

It's been phased out in the UK over at least the last decade.

They still get sold though, I would never buy one though.

Pretty much, arc lamps had been around a long time as well by this point. Carbonized charcoal as well being used in these.

Also mercury isn't a problem, you would have to smash like 10 right after each other in a low airflow room for it to be a issue.

I am perfectly fine with this. I just upgraded the 8 bulbs I have in my kitchen celing to led. Sure It may have cost $200 to do so, but the cost will offset itself in the electric bill. Those 8 bulbs combined don't even equal the wattage of 1 of those previous bulbs which was 75w a piece and these new ones just a tad brighter too.

The average incandescent light bulb is less than 5% efficient. More than 95% is just given off as heat. LED bulbs with the same rated light output are at least 10 times more efficient.

I'll be sticking with my incandescents for bedroom use. 150W is like turning the sun on (in both light and heat). None of this warmup bollocks you have with fluorescent lights. Don't have to pay £20 for each bulb, either.
