Its worth getting the Sapphire 7870 2GB XT because it's the better version with more cores and cuz it has 2 fans.

7870 LE, XT, BLACK EDITION, all the same card but from different brands and some with diferent coolers.

That was only posted in October, and there will be bad stock sitting in stores atm....maybe. ?

    EDIT:
This is actually pretty piss poor of Sapphire if they were aware of the issue 4-5myhs ago but are only just now making a public statement.

I can't help but think they tried to hide it even though the forums have been bombarded with complaints

^ oop, I should have said half a year ago. I guess that could be "nearly a year ago" to some ;) I agree, it seems pretty sh!tty of Sapphire to come to the table so late with this. It reminds me of Toyota with their recall a few years back - clearly had knowledge of it but tried to cover it up to protect brand reputation.

This part really stood out to me -

"While AMD has refused to make any comment on its partners, it has become clear that for an unknown reason, Sapphire failed to integrate the corrective requested by AMD when it initiated mass production. This is what has caused these crashes on some cards and when they are in an environment that accentuates electrical signal noise."

I thought the same but for some reason decided to keep my mouth shut.

But fwiw the VTX heats up to 78c when loaded, draws 215W and has a noisy fan. Oh and it uses Elpida vram, otherwise it's prob a good card. lol

Considering your getting 3 games that have a £30 Retail price anyway its a REALLY good deal. Like I said, I just don't know what overclocking would be like with that cooler.

The card in that link is a reference model.

Reference GPU's have less effective cooling and usually less overclocking potential than custom models like TF, WF3 and of course, the Vapor-X....

Btw I just found this fantastic bargain on eBay; the auction closed yesterday but the buyer got a 4mth old Sapphire Vapor-X with warranty for only $190!

    Vapor-X here 2mth old went for $210

    Sapphire Dual-X brand new $210

MSI Twin Frozr used, bidding at $150

Current Vapor-X auction, bidding is at $170

All better than reference AMD model

I'm just pointing out it could be worth buying one from eBay, I thought you were on a budget - or was that only when you were buying the PSU?

MSI TF here bidding at $150

Powercolor, VTX, and Club3D are brands to avoid. I can't recommend 7870 either due to it's history of problems.

On the other hand a 7950/70 from either MSI, Sapphire, Gigabyte or ASUS (non Top) will overclock well and perform like a champ.
