test that oc with prime 95 blend avx instruction set. if you get a bsod 0101 or 0124 nudge up the vcore a step or 2 and test again. minimum 4hrs preferably overnight

Thanks for your help, guys! Gonna test it more thorougly tomorrow...

Unfortunately not! But I've decided to focus on the game for now and finally have some fun! ;)

It's still far from perfect, even when I switch to the lowest settings.

But I think it might be more of an issue of optimization on AMD's as well as DICE's part. Some maps run very fluidly until you come across an area, which results in a massive fps drop for no apparent reason.

Anyway, at least I can see the potential! :)

Maybe your psu is ****ty. 290x is kinda hungry. Also My game runs way better than yours yet I have a lower cpu.

good point, which corsair model is it? Although I'm pretty sure all of them should be fine for a 290x. Anyway, if all fails, there's a windows re-instal ;)

Des come play! Me and Revan just had a good round

There is something going on.. With win 8.1 and your setup at 1080p you should be hitting 60fps no problem.. One thing that comes to mind is gpu temps. if your case doesnt have proper ventilation you could be experiencing downclocking. us afterburner to check gpu temps.. Also see if your using 100% gpu usage, and do the same with cpu, see where your at for your usage there.. Your memory, is it 1600mhz? The higher the mhz the better bf4 runs.. Also make sure windows is using all your ram and not just half of it... Your best bet is to look how much everything is being used.. Check back with your percentages.

I just looked and saw your psu is 600w thats more then likley your problem... The min psu for a 290x and a cpu oc is ~750w. You know of anyone that you can borrow a powersupply and test that too.

The idea that a 2600K at stock is somehow bottlenecking a single card is frankly laughable. Just because an overclock would improve performance doesn't mean that's the problem here.

    Some settings are important too.

Make sure it's set to custom and try these settings:

    Texture Quality: High or Ultra
    Texture Filtering: High or Ultra
    Lighting Quality: High or Ultra
    Effects Quality: Low or Medium
Posts Process Quality: Low or Medium
    Mesh Quality: High or Ultra
    Terrain Quality: High or Ultra
    Terrain DecorationL High or Ultra
    Antialiasing DefferedL 2x MSAA
    Anti Aliasing Post: OFF
    Ambient Occlusion: OFF

That should help, setting them to an automated high setting is pretty daft IMO, it's so much better customizing it.

Well, I didn't say that it's the cause of the problem, since it didn't really fix it anyway.

Are you guys sure, that an inefficient PSU could result in lower FPS? I think I read somewhere, that this is not true.

My memory is running at 1066, so there's also some room for improvement.

And yes, of course I'm not using the stock presets of the game and have been tweaking for hours. Anyway, the thing is, that I don't need a card like this, if my goal is to play on reduced settings though! ;)

    Thanks for your help, everyone!

1066mhz omg................... 1st thing, get some 1866~2400mhz ram. u can see 20fps diffrence between 1600 and 2400 at average fps. being at 1066, you would see more then likly a 30 fps diffrence.

Second would be to test another psu, iv been asking around another forum and yes your corsair isnt up for the job.. You need a 750w.. That is your diagnosis..

i7 is culprit here. Disable HT and you are OK.
Because BF4 detects and tries to utilize all 8 cores while only 4 are real.
60% means utilization for 4 real ones +1 fake. Same goes for some other applications which are capable to utilize 8 real cores.
And yes, even your 4 real cores @ 3.4GHz are bit low for BF4.

Alright, I've monitored some sessions with MSI Afterburner and all cores get to 60-70% max. The GPU however is taxed 100%. What does this indicate?

Thanks again, you are very helpful, guys!

Yeah try without HT and see how that works out. Otherwise... can you get a good oc running on that RAM? It's holding you back nicely..

Your CPU is fine if the GPU usage is maxed, it's probably the game. Frostbite engine being a pita as always.

    what is that chart from?

And no, he doesn't need a 750W, that's just BS. See here http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290x_review_benchmarks,10.html

not really, depends entirely on what you're running. for games, 1600mhz vs 2133mhz means almost no difference most of the time.
