Am looking at Team Xtreem 2400 mhz cl9 atm, its the same samsung memory stick as the gskill.

Nice. It looks like BD needs at least 4.5 to match my 1090T @ 4.0. I don't know about anyone else, but that is a failure. This is coming from an AMD guy. Hope AMD pulls their thumb out for the next round.

Hopefully amd can come out with a good cpu next round this one is not good and even get's beat in most scenarious by the older amd cpu much less throwing in intel cpus that crush them both.

Doesnt it really depend on the model of the ram?

AMD has until ivy bridge extreme in 2013 to catch up to ivy bridge. I am guessing Vishera is q3 2012, and the next gen after that (3rd gen) with steamroller cores will be released Q3-Q4 2013.. which just happens to be when Ivy Bridge Extreme is released.

It will be intresting to see a 3rd gen 8-10 core AMD Steamroller CPU (which will be 30-50% higher IPC with potentially 15-25% higher overclockability, and drastic power reduction when compared to current generation bulldozer (this can be noticed already in trinity 2nd gen bulldozer) against ivy bridge extreme (which we can already estimate to be 10-15% faster than the 3960x based on 4 core 8 thread benchmarks, with overckockability still unknown but i estimate to be only 5-10% higher at maximum - ivy bridge extreme wont be a cool processor).

I am guessing AMD's high end CPUs will be going up in price, as the CPU gap will shrink.

This last URL shows that with 3.0 Ghz vs 4.2 Ghz (40% increase in clock, for 20% increase in performance, shows IPC of trinity still behind that of K10.5 Phenom II core, so i estimate steamroller will match phenom II X4 IPC, but imagine this on 10 cores (~8.3x Scaling) at clocks 30% higher than phenom II.

I do not see the gap closing at all in the high end cpu market. intel has IB 1155 and 2011 Ibe coming out, then theres haswell, amd has not even matched the p2 ipc yet, let alone beat it. I see no competition in the mainstream and high end cpu market at all. amd is better off concentrating on the low end pc market and build a niche there

Remember by 2013 Q3 most new software will probably utilize more than 4 threads

Heard all this before and BD is what we got. AMD needs to put their money where their mouth is. Anyone can make bull**** promises, which is exactly what AMD did with BD. Good thing they bought ATI. At least they have something to be proud of.

Riiight, and how long has 2+ cores been the norm? How many real multithreaded apps do we have and how long has it taken to get there? By the time this happens, BD will be woefully obsolete.

Like i said 20% increase in performance for 40% increase in clock is a fairly conservative prediction. It could be much more, An IPC increase by 15% isnt unreasonable, and given low IPC performance for bulldozer at stock clocks, I have a feeling that is about what it will end up being.

Awesome, and by 2013 there will be over 3-4 architecture releases by then.

Which is why buying AMD FX today to get good performance two years from now is pointless. An analogy would be to pay $40,000 for a sports car A that performs poorer than the competitors $30,000 sports car B but saying that car A will be getting special tires in two years that might make it faster; though it still will be a gas guzzler in comparison.

Well, it doesn't necessarily justify buying a current bulldozer system, but it just means in the future more cores will be better, as utilization will lean more towards multi threading.

Perhaps, and that is the key word.

AMD bet on the fact that by now there would be heavily parallel-threaded desktop programs out by now that would be heavily FP dependent, they were wrong and are now paying for that.
