A few years ago I was fueling up at a Detroit truck stop (Pilot I-90), and a tour bus pulled in beside me at the pumps. I didn't pay much attention to it but when I went inside to pay the cashier the Insane Clown Pussies were standing in line ahead of me. Just a random event from Detroit.
This is really sad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XN0udjUKAM But it may not be permitted to happen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCRxQHJJWls
I'd believe it. Whenever I go down there (very infrequently) it's like a ghost town. I'll never forget seeing a car roll by with multiple gunshot holes in the driver's side door. Anyways, they just filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy. Of course, everyone flipped a sh!t like always. Unions...
Interstates are funded at a state, not city, level. They also get government grants: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/discretionary/imdinfo.cfm
Yeah you're right, I thought about that after posting. Still, it's ironic given then state of the city now.

the foreshadow of America under the democrats, Exploited until it dies. Maybe they can salvage it but it seems pretty far gone.
It's rather shocking that a major downtown like Detroit only has the same amount of people as Mississauga, Ontario, a suburb next to Toronto. deltatux
Detroit has been in decline since Obama was in grade school. One might consider who has been promoting the outsourcing of industries overseas for the last several decades.
Anyway how does a city get into £12bn of debt, surely at 1bn the alarm bells must have rang Seems like the US government just let it happen
No kidding. My dad worked in Detroit during Nixon. The D is probably far better than it was then, they had to convoy out of downtown if they worked late. Detroit is a victim of forces way beyond republicans and democrats.
I guess neither of you ever heard of Encyclopedia Dramatica.... Internet Censorship must really suck for you both.
