It obviously depends on the game as some engines that aren't optimised for SLI for example might scale well on the Titan. Benchmarks I've seen suggest the Titan can generally be up to 50% faster than a GTX 680 and I think one game was 70% faster but that was the exception. Games were around 40% faster on average so it would make sense for the GTX 780 to be around 30% faster.

The price needs to be substantially lower than a Titan though to offer both value for money and slot in as a GTX 680 replacement. In other words it needs to be around £400 but if NVIDIA are going to give the card 5 GB of VRAM then it may inflate the price to £600/£650. That would be too much for me personally. I'd pay up to £500 for such a card but no more than that considering it uses a single GPU.

Hmm those specs don't really look so bad to me. IF I could find a buyer on my cards I'd gladly pick up a 5 gig 780. I mean....a single card like that, at that price isn't so bad.

So since there's apparently going to be a 3GB version of the 780, would that be enough for 1080p single monitor maxed out games for the next year do you reckon? There's nothing that really caps out even 2GB at the moment is there? Only thing I can get to max out 2GB is Skyrim with virtually every texture modded.

depends on how the next-gen console games are in the next year, i imagine you'll be safe, however once the console devs get the next-gen wrapped around their fingers well, ..let's say that if GTA5 gets uber love from the next-gen devs then yes over 3gb at 1080 easy, probably won't though, tbh it'll be GTA6 that pushes >3GB , also 4K res teles etc. will be getting more poopular soon when the tv stations start broadcasting in HD HD lol.

IMO by the time you spend money on a 3GB 780, you may as well get the 5 GB version. Even at 1080p, it's uncertain to say how future games will pan out.

But hey, that's how I feel about it, different people like/think different things.

Thanks for the replies, I was just thinking about trying to cut costs for the next card so I could buy 2 at the same time rather than waiting, but I guess going for 3GB would perhaps bite me in the arse at a later date...

I'm wondering if there will be a 790 or is the Titan effectively the 790. This time around, nVidia has me really confused with what they are doing.

x90 cards are the dual GPU cards and Titan is supposed to be a new sub-brand like GTX, GT, etc. so don't I think they will go away.

No the Titan is not a 790, The Titan is a single PCB card.
The 790 will most likely by a dual PCB card consisting of 2xTitan LE on one physical card.

It will happen as thats evolution, it cannot happen.

Not sure whether to upgrade to a GTX760Ti or to wait even longer for all the new features of Maxwell next year.
