I'd like to see an 860Ti in the $200-250USD range.

800 series eh.. well i'll be waiting a little while longer until my GTX570 just can't cut it any more but it's the series I said i'd wait for.

I used to be one for changing GPU's all the time but now I find its worth waiting a couple of gens for the best jump, more so at the prices they charge now. £500-£600 you've got to be joking.

Yeah, I think the days of mid-range cards in the $200-250 range are over.

Such a shame, I think my best budget card ever was the 9600GT, that thing was bad ass for its price. So much so I ran 9600GT's in SLI till the GTX570 was released. That really was bang for your buck back then.

The more the PC market loses customers to tablets the higher AMD/Nvidia will have to charge which in turn chases more people away.

Speaking of great value cards from Nvidia, 8800GT is hard to beat.

That era in general was fantastic. I remember picking up a 3850 for under £100. I think the 8800GT's were going for around the £130-140 mark. What can you get for that sort of money now? Especially on launch.

I think it was best value for a card ever, lol... great overclocker and was really close to 8800GTS (G92) and 8800GTX that ware alot more expensive.

Payed mine XFX "alpha dog" for 200€, while 8800GTX was like 450€.

GTX460 was a pretty damn good card for it's price. If prices for the next gen mirror or exceed last gen....I'll be sticking with my GTX660 longer. I don't game enough to justify $300+ every generation (or even every other generation) anymore.

GTX460 would be second on my list of great value GPU's.

I never owned one myself but friends who had the 5870 were all very happy with those.

I don't game enough either these days so spending alot on a gaming GPU might be silly, but saying that i still want something that will last a while as not long married so don't know how much longer i will be able to throw the cash around like i used to lol.

One can only hope. In all honesty GK110 based cards should be at the $400-600 price point (this includes Titan) and anything with a GK104 in it should be under the $300 mark. To add some clarity to this, this should not be price drops this should be launch MSRP.

Whilst I think AMD have been on a role lately with Never Settle drivers, bundles, and their cards generally perform really well for their price points. I still think Nvidia are guilty of price fixing this gen and also holding back on their cards performance.

With the GTX680 which was meant to be the GTX660 and GK110 TITAN and 780 were meant to be the actual GTX680. They did this because they saw how the 7000 series performed and thought well why should be release something that is going to destroy our only competition in the market when we can release the lower end cards as the high end cards and charge more for them.

Also releasing TITAN for a premium price, which still makes no sense to me 30% faster than a 7970GHz yet cost 50% more. Which in turn gave them the opportunity to release a refresh of the 600 series cards as the 700 series and charge higher rates for them as well making more profit whilst also keeping their competition alive so they don't stagnate the market.

I have been wanting Maxwell for a long time now, but I still think they will hold back its performance and charge even more for them. Though AMD COULD have the upper hand if Mantle API takes off then all GCN cards could actually get a nice performance boost in newer titles that uses Mantle and with consoles using X86 architecture and also AMD APU's this should hopefully filter up to their higher end desktop parts or better still filter down to console easily so devs start making games for the PC first and porting down (scaling back) for the weaker consoles.

Nvidia seem more focused on the mobile side of things with Tegra, and also the server market and the ******ing market with Nvidia GRID than they do with consoles or high end desktop parts. Which is obviously where the money is to be made.

Still I really want to see how Maxwell performs, or should that be "how Nvidia wants it to perform" ;)

I am going to wait out the Maxwell refresh, my SLI 670 FTW's give me every thing I need for now. I do see that the 2GB of Vram is going to soon be a problem so looking forward to an upgrade at some point.

    Oh god yes!

    The 8800GT was a phenomenal card, I picked one up and slapped it in a build I made from spare parts and sold the system for £500 it consisted of;

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz CPU (which would do 3.4GHz easily)
    4GB Kingston Hyper X DDR2 Memory
256MB (or 512MB can't remember) 8800GT (which would overclock very well too)
    700W PSU
    Asus P5W DH Deluxe Mobo,
    Thermaltake Armour Black Case,
    DVD-RW Drive,
    Windows Vista X64 Ultimate,

Sold it for £500 to a friend which was a complete and utter bargain for a system like that at the time. It played Crysis 1 maxed out and still managed 35fps average with couple of sinks to 25fps with tons going on but still very playable and all for a card that cost me £119!!!
