    Hi gurus

I'm replacing a graphics card in a laptop, and it needs new thermal pads. The Market doesn't seem to be as competitive for these. What brand is good? Can I use a high density non conductive thermal paste instead? The gap between the gpu die and the heatsink isn't "contact" close either it seems.

the old stuff you took off, was it a pad or paste?

Hmm, thanks for the tips guys.. I saw some of the liquid metal pads at my local ARLT (currently in Heidelberg, Germany), and was just thinking of getting that, assuming its thick enough to cover the gap between the heatsink and the GPU.

The stuff on there before (and still is there) is pads. Fairly thick, almost white solid spongy looking pads. Which begs the question: are they re-usable? The ones for the ram chips are still in good shape, just the one on the old GPU die looks like it melted (which, from what I understand is normal as they take on an almost liquid consistency under heat) and I'd like a fresh one for the new GPU.

Also, are these liquid metal pads very electrically conductive? I just dont want the stuff leaking all over the place or something..?

Shin Etsu make good thermal pads of all shapes and sizes, if you can find them.

if they used PADS, do not use PASTE. those liquid metal sheets suck :)
you need pads that have the same thickness. you should have just used the old ones.

i would use thermal tape instead. it works better and it dont insulate heat like the pads do. any electronic store should carry it.
