Hey guys, I want to upgrade my graphics cards soon. I have a 2560 x 1440 display. I want the ultimate experience, without having to buy a $3000 dollar titan z. lol. I know at that resolution 3gb is not enough, so my question is this: should I get the 6gb titan black or 3gb 780 ti in sli? Having two 780 ti’s doesn’t truly give me 6gb vram right? So whats my best option, if I enjoy maxing out all settings when playing high end pc games?

evga titan black. 6gb barrier vs half that. apart from the fact the titan black is dreamy.
i'd love to game with titanB waw. i'd have lil physx card too.

Overclocked 780 6gb SLI, not a listed option but valid.

Buy a titan black now and buy another one in the future when things get hairy.

I game at 1440. 1titan black is going to get smoked by 2 780ti. You could get 2 780 6gb alternately instead.

Just to add, 3gb is enough for 1440p. If I was buying now, I'd go either 4gb (290/x) or 6gb on a powerful sli/cfx rig.

That's why I'm confused. some people 3gb is enough for gaming, some say to max out settings in some games like watchdogs, you should have 4gb or more at 1440p. I also want this upgrade to be future proof, for at least 2 years. I wish they would come out with 6gb gtx 780 ti, but jacob over at evga forums says it's not likely now. So, I'm trying to find the "goldilocks" graphics card... and curious what other people at 1440 are doing.

Do not use W_D as reference.

I game at 1440p and 3gb is plenty. Like I said, I've not seen a single slowdown due to lack of vram. If I was buying now, I'd probably look into 290/x from AMD, 4gb vram will give you that tiny bit extra you might need. Not sure how much more the 6gb 780 is vs 3gb, but I'm guessing quite a fair chunk more.

EDIT: yeah, it's like £100 more so if you buy 2, you're looking at £200 more overall. Not as tragic as I thought it could be, if money plays no part, go with 6gb. if money does come into it, 2x 290 will cost you around £300 less than 2x 780 6gb.

Like eclap says don't use wd as any way to measure performance. And yes two ti's should be great for years to come. But don't quote me on that.

Source? It would of been out already. Its kinda out right now in the titan black. a 6gb ti and a titan black would perform identically in games.

Well... 3x 780 6gb is the same Price as 2x 780 ti's... so the former would deffo be my choice, if i was to upgrade right now.

Titan black for sure, 780 ti 3 gb is a great card, but the 3gb bottlenecks ultra textures in watchdogs, and wolfenstein.

These are only 2 games that support 6gb of vram more are come to follow, the witcher 3 for example will support ultra settings and it will also probably going to use 4 to 6gb on vram.

go with a titan black u cant be wrong with that, and if its still not beefy enough in a full year or so, buy another one :)

gtx 780 ti is wastle of money atm due to the 3gb of vam.
But we couldnt not known that before, because watchdogs and wolfenstein were released later after the 780 ti.

2.7 is still high consider that the 780 ti only got 3 gb vram it needs more headroom.

Ok cool, thanks for your input guys. I've decided I'm going to wait until the end of July to see if a 6gb 780ti is released. if not then I'll just buy a titan. then, in a year or so, when I feel like I need to, I'll add another one in sli. Ive always sick to Nvidia, probably because when most games start, they have the "made for nvidia" logo sometimes lol.not a good reason I'm happy with their products. Just wish the 780 ti 6gb is released soon!:nerd:

Dude, be smart and just get 2 or 3 780 non-ti' with 6gb vram... Will be alot cheaper, and if you get 3, it will also get you more performance.

I would quote a link if I could. Google search for 6GB 780 Ti.

I may or may not also be in contact with an individual who has inside knowledge.
