In case someone is interested in reviving good old memories.

I am having a blast lately re-vising old games.

I made a guide in which you might be interested, if you'd like to
replay Doom / Doom II / HacX / Heretic / Hexen / Check Quest

Just thought about getting a new game, preferably a shooter.

Hell, I'll replay the best one instead with this!

Just need to get my hands on DOOM games again, seems there's a sale on Steam including Ultimate / Final DOOM, DOOM 2 and the Master Levels Pack for DOOM 2, for 14,99 €.

I suppose my floppy disk DOS copies wouldn't work anymore, even if I could find them ;)

Wow, this works with Heretic and Hexen too? so excited! The last shooter I completed was Doom 2 last summer, I relay these games from time to time and they give me much more enjoyment than any modern shooter.

BTW how do these work nowadays with Steam?

Do they run out-of-the-box or does one need to use DOSBOX or similar?

    It's all DOSBOX

Id get the bunble on steam, hours of hours of levels and gameplay
    and them use Doomsday engine.

The only good engine for brutal is zDoom or GZDoom.

TBH, I play only with keyboard, and haven't tested if brutal can be configured
with no mouse and auto aim on.
Other than that, brutal changes a lot of gameplay stuff. including weapons and that was not my intention, my intention was to preserve original gameplay

Got it, thanks! That's what I intend to do ;)

However I'll also play around a bit in the "original" mode just for nostalgias sake. In fact I'll probably try and dig up DEU and start creating my own wads again!

We actually had a "project" back in elementary school with my friend. He was good at drawing so he made up level schematics and I realised them with DEU.

The problem was he had designs for all the episodes while I was still working on the first levels... apparently he wasn't pleased that the production was so far behind design :nerd:

    But veering off topic now.

Also, if you people want to go ahead and play mega wads,

I recommned the offcial id Games wad (levels) site.

I highly reccomned to play Odissey 2012 , 10th edition

    http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/

Still you need Doom original, to play.

I've had DoomsDay Engine set up on my WinXP box for over a year now. It's great. I thought everyone knew about this little gem.

How is DoomsDay engine better than a good source port like GZDoom?

  16. ibitato

    ibitato Guest

Because it's a source port, like any other, but better.
The difference is in the GUI, ease of use, supports more games
than Doom , it has emmbeded taskbar , swithing games, and many other things.

You should try it, or read the guide, specially first chapter,
    "Why Doomsday Engine".

Have to redownload it some time, i remember using doomsday back then when it was released first, great memories kept Doomsday and Doom Legacy back then (first port for graphics and second one for split-screen)

Looks interesting. I currently run the classic Doom from 1995 on DosBox & GZDoom...

Before I try the Doomsday Engine, could someone please upload some screenshots of how it looks maxed out?

Just wondering how it compares to the current GZDoom.

    Cheers gurus.
