I've been having some issues getting the newer versions of Linux (Mint 14, most recent Ubuntu) onto my laptop. Have they added the requirement for some extension I haven't noticed? It's an old IBM P4 ThinkPad (T42). Any ideas on how to get Linux working? Ta BLEH!
Maybe the new MDM from Mint, maybe 3.2 .3 kernel does not includes PAE . I also ran in the same issues,i switched to SoluOS ,solved all above issues. Did you had any succes run the live session? If so,can you run the dmesg | tail command, see what if shows you.
It won't even go into live boot mode, no. Must be that thing you said. Will try this SoluOS. Any others out there?
Mint 14 and latest Ubuntu use the PAE kernel, previous versions dont. Mint 13 should work, still a solid OS.
My fault.it was the other way around. Tried to add safemode when started the live session(press TAB ,add safemode)?
Apparently there are modified non-PAE versions of latest linux kernels you can download. You would have to replace the kernel files in the 12.10 ubuntu ISO and then install it. Should work for Mint 14 too since its Ubuntu based. http://linuxcommands.blueflash.info/category/pae/
