nVidia GTX 680 Specs and Images

580 were artificially capped, 560 not so

 

i'm assuming they are having trouble selling OpenCL and CUDA to developers because of consoles.

CUDA is mainly aimed at enterprise developers with tesla and quadro cards, not game studios, but I see what you meant.

 

I'm not talking graphics at all. My 560Ti handles the few games I play at more than acceptable graphics settings.

The LuxMark OpenCL benchmark makes the GTX680 look pathetic when compared to a GTX580 or even an HD7850. It's only 20% faster than my 560Ti in LuxMark which, for free, I can easily make up for with an 18% OC. For OpenCL, the GTX680 with a considerably higher shader count, is inferior. A card with more than double the shaders should be faster clock for clock, not equal or slower. So, either nVidia screwed up the architecture for GPGPU or they've gimped OpenCL performance. Won't take long for our folding team to figure out which it is....

 

which to gamers means nothing. So just don't get it if you intend to run CUDA or OpenCL things. Or compile too many videos.

 

Folding@Home uses Cuda and OpenCL. BOINC uses Cuda... PowerDVD is "cuda enabled".... Bullet uses OpenCL....

The success or failure of Cuda or OpenCL has nothing to do with gaming. In fact, neither were originally developed with gaming in mind. Their original purpose lies in GPGPU. nVidia wants Cuda to dominate GPGPU as it would become another "selling point" for their cards. With OpenCL, they have no control or advantage....which is something nVidia doesn't like.

Until it's proven in F@H, I don't plan on touching the 6xx series

 

but if your primary goal is to run CUDA couldn't you just pop in your 560 and use that as your compute card and the 600 as gaming?

its pretty easy to see where the market is currently and F@H it is not

 

@sykozis GF104/114 1/12 DP/SP is all they have

they are not artificially capped like GF100/110, which have 1/2 DP/SP hardware,

but are artif. capped leaving only 1/4, for a grand total of 1/8 DP/SP

 

Oh, now I get what you meant. I thought you meant 560 had full DP performance. Sorry about my previous post.

Yes, GF104/114 are limited to 1/12 DP at hardware level. Who knows, maybe GK104 is the same, if it really was supposed to be a midrange chip.

my only concern here is the only graphic intensive game, metro, is raping the 680.
something doesn't bode well.

 

Lol Noisiv. As I suspected at higher resolution the difference is not so marked in some title and no one should be running a 7970 at stock tbh.

However, At 1080 this card is awesome.
