1230v2 Xeon (no igpu at all) is almost identical with i7-3770 , with i5 3570k price. Some mobos allow "overclocking" by changing the multiplier to 37 and no need for 140 euro mobo + 60 euro OC cooler. I need help, cause i'm starting to freak out. It seems like i can't set the turbo multiplier more than 42. I mean, i can in the bios, but when i go to the desktop and check cpu-z, it always says 4200.00 Mhz, even if i set it to 44 or 45. What the hell is happening? I tried everything, am i missing something?
Yes hopefully we'll see more games like BF3 that use all cores... Haha well said.... If it's anything like AMD CPU's Turbo it doesn't work once you start overclocking.

Quite happy with mine. Does 4.5 @ 1.32v but leave it at 4.2 stock volts. Never intended to get the 3570k, was waiting for Haswell, but last board (P55 Gigabyte) developed sata controller issues, so this was more a replacement of old board/CPU. Not sure I'll go for Haswell now, as I dont think it will do much better on the IPC front. Intel seems more focused on TDP and IGP improvements and of course multi-threaded performance. So gaming-wise I dont think Haswell will do much vs IB.

Nope...not the case with Intel. Unless you disable Turbo Boost....changing the multiplier changes the Turbo Boost frequency.
I figured it out. Somehow the Asus AI Suite is tied with the bios and it didn't let me change the multiplier. It seems like every time i set it to 45 in the bios, the Ai Suite reset it once i boot. I uninstalled that crap and i can overclock now.
Funny how I thought I was stuck at 4.2Ghz (with optimal manual voltage settings) but after reading this excellent re-review, I decided to try 4.4Ghz with auto voltage, and what do you know - it's 100% stable. Temps do not go over 78c on any core with a Cooler Master V8 (ARCTIC MX4 Thermal Paste). Voltage doesn't go past 1.3010 (according to CoreTemp64). Anyways, solid review, for a solid CPU!
Mines at 4.5ghz@1.288v the volts required to get stable above this is just cray cray so im happy at 4.5 lovin this chip. Nice revisit there hilbert for this very popular cpu
Hmmm interesting. I have an i7 3770k at 4.6 Ghz, and it never goes above 65C on a Cooler Master V6 GT. I use arctic silver 5 still, even though MX is supposed to be better. I'd think the i7 3750k would run cooler since it doesn't have HT? I know the V6 GT is a bit faster RPM maybe that is why. I use auto on my voltages as well, and its rock solid.
You could most certainly get your VCore down by manual overclocking. What's your auto voltage at that clock?
Guys is it a known "fact" or just hearsay that SB clocks+300Mhz(+/-) equals to IB performance?E.g SB@4.8=IB@4.5? Also Hilbert, I have always wondered and never got the chance to ask you or someone that knows this. Are the Intel CPU's(mainly interested in the 2600k) tested with the Turbo on or with fixed clocks? E.g The 2600k was fixed at 3,4 or you had the Turbo on(3.8-3.9Ghz)? Asking just to see how my NON-K 2600 fares against the OC'ed 3570k. Thank you.
The temperature increase is simply not acceptable for such high-end CPU:s. Intel should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen.
