hi iam looking into buying a new 5.1 system for PC, budget is about £250 wanting 1 with an amp or receiver not sure on difference between amp and receiver so not sure which 1 would be best suited, had a quick look on google for 5.1 system to get a rough idea but got confused with all the different types of features like pro logic hd/pro logic 2lx etc any help would be appreciated thanks
I'd say that £250 is a bit skinny for a 5.1.... I'd look at grabbing a decent AVR and speakers and then adding to that when your budget allows.... Maybe something like a Onkyo TX-SR 313 and a pair of Wharfdale 10.1s.
You could also look into All-in-one Home theater boxes. They are a cheaper route than going with a seperate quality receiver and seperate speakers. I have an LG Home theater All-in-One setup and its really a good deal for the 250$ I got it for. Its a 1100w capable setup and even though it only has 1 HDMI input, the fact that it can accept an HDMI connection is a good future proof feature and its also a blu ray player. So its a Blu-ray combo receiver if you don't have a seperate blu-ray player yet. Supports all the lossless HD audio formats too as well as 4:4:4 chroma and 0-255 full rgb passthrough for PC use. But my recommendation since i know what "quality" audio is now after i bought my Home theater in-a-box setup, is to buy into something from brands like Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Polk Audio, JBL, etc.
just checked amazon was looking at either http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-YHT2...J3AS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363900532&sr=8-2 or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Onkyo-HT-S3...HTLW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363900532&sr=8-1
Well, the Yamaha seems a bit better, because it has a dedicated subwoofer jack. They would both be good for the price. regards, RagDoll.
went with yamaha should be here next week hopefully 1st time owning half decent 5.1 setup using 540 logitech at moment
