    Well, I could agree and disagree at the same time. Sure gasoline will flame up and all if it's set on fire... but it doesn't necessarily explode unless it can build up pressure. It probably could build up some pressure in a gas tank, but it definitely isn't the same as carrying a bomb around. Lots of flames is always bad though :nerd:

    the military would try to find a way to make it weapon too, there good for that among spending our taxes on other countries

    Capacitors are useful when you're building pulse lasers. Principle usage is in science though. If something isn't working in science, just add lasers.

    even then, that tech would trickle down into everyday technology like military inventions in the past.

    Lithium batteries were considered very dangerous before they were used in phones, laptops etc, and yet people now don't give that a second thought, but the danger really isn't any less in terms of the actual battery. The reason why phone and laptop batteries are relatively safe is because of how the battery is contained, and for this new type of battery it would be much the same. The difference with this type of battery is that it is much easier to shape, and contain in terms of perpendicular interaction. Of course, the danger comes if some idiot decides to deliberately short out the contact points, but this can be overcome by have a regulator to prevent such discharge.

    To me, one of the most obvious uses for this technology which people really haven't dwelt upon is the use in electric cars. A critical thing holding back electric cars is temporary electric storage. Lead-acid batteries take up too much room and are heavy (and give off hydrogen gas that can be hazardous), lithium batteries are much better for this purpose, but lithium mining is so bad environmentally you are undoing the benefit of lower carbon emissions, so really until now there has been no real solution. Of course, ideally for car use you have a few more charge/discharge cycles, especially when you consider star/stop traffic, but even then it looks to have a higher longevity than current solutions.

    I suspect that the impulse current would cause serious electrical erosion on any battery. They mention the super capacitor will last 100,000 charges but how long would a lithium Ion battery last with that sort of electrical shock load? Just re-read it and it replaces the battery totally with a Hydrogenated TiO2 Nanotube Array. These guys released this in February of last year

    obviously there is much more to it, that capacitor is attached to a whole lot of circuitry which that kid designed. I doubt the capacitor will be there at the discharge, its probably there only at the charging cycle.

    Anyways, im just worried that this kid didn't patent and copyrighted his creation, instead of making potentially millions he could be robbed wide open of his creation.... seen that happening all the time in those competition.
