Yes, it was the fastest 1-1.5 years ago. Now for instance 570M beats it by some 15-30% (rough estimate).
Well i sold my computer now, and i got my sights on this beauty http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/nspire2760-blackedition.html?th=g So when i part with compo and get cash on Thursday ill be ordering it. ............. Unless theres something better for £700 Anyway thought id just say.
that's not a bad price for a brand new laptop but when you consider you could have gotten better performance from a slightly older used machine... For example, one with a high end dual core cpu, 2.53ghz or higher and a class 1 card such as the gtx 260m... I know for a fact asus has a model called the g71gx and the g72gx which offer these features and you can find them for around $700 USD on ebay. I'd highly recommend getting them USED from an original owner rather than getting one refurbished. These notebooks are notoriously known to go bad due to clips on the case falling off and then shorting out the board. You definitely do not want a "refurbished" unit because there's a good chance it had the board shorted at one point.
gtx 260m isn't a class 1 card, not that that even makes any sense, but I assume you're using notebookcheck it's also not easy trying to find older laptops with these cards, ebay for example has no results for the 260m 280m or 285m
I'd say it's on the borderline of good playing cards - a little slower than 555M but still good enough to BF3 and medium settings. I'll keep mine at least still one year.
i m using samsung rf511 atm http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP-RF511-S02US very powerful and less than $1000 usd spend a lil bit more and you dont have to spend again for a few years
Wouldn't say very powerful, my 3 years old G51J runs rings round it -- well, at least beats it clearly.
did anyone mention the use of a new 7 series gpu in the laptop? apparently 79 series trounces any current laptop gpu as its exactly the same as the desktop model with a 10% lower clock speed, same ram same everything pretty much and its $100 less than the equivalent top end nvidia, but WAY faster!! basically it is a full 7970 in a laptop for the first time the laptop specs haven't been dumbed down http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/658185-amd-7970m-vs-gtx-680m-2.html might be out of the range of most people but i thought i would mention as its genuine desktop replacement power
18months later after my initial interest in replacing my desktop with a lappy I finally bought one...4 months old 2nd hand with these specs; 15.6" Sager NP 9150 / Clevo P150EM i7 3610qm 2.3Ghz-3.3Ghz 680m 4GB memory 8GB DDR3 240GB SSD For only £1115! The final decision to do it came after moving house. Lack of room for my old setup means I wanted something small which was as close to my current PC box as possible. Still have to get a hard drive dock, but, I think I'll be fine for at least a year or so, plus, this lappy IS upgradable. It's someone else's custom-build and the CPU, memory and hd space lets it down, but, it's still better than the one I looked at in my post above back in august 2011. Phew, time flies! Now to sell the desktop!
Yah, good laptop, I would like the 680m instead, but it's mad expensive, just to get better drivers. Is it the better quality screen or the cheaper one?
Not sure, it's matte one, full hd. Could only afford it with 680m due to 2nd-hand nature of it on Ebay auction.
