Hello, it's been a long time since i've upgraded my PC. I was thinking about getting a PS4 (pretty much the same reason that made me buy a PS3, Final Fantasy). However after reading it'll upscale BF4 from 720p i'm not interested anymore (not to mention i can't be guaranteed the game(s) won't be aliased), so i think i'll just upgrade my pc. The main reason is the CPU which has seen better days, even with overclock it's simply not enough these days specially for new MMOs. This is what i have right Now: Q9550 4GB DDR2 GTX570 As you can see it's kinda old. This is what i have in mind: 3570K 8GB GSkill Sniper DDR3-1866 Unsure about Motherboard, need help here -- mainly something that let's me push the 3570K and is stable (max 150€) -- i usually buy ASUS MoBos I can spend a bit more on the Memory if it makes a big difference in overclock. Sadly i didn't pay attention to hardware since i bought the Q9550 (has been some years), basically the choice was based on Benchmarks. Any helps is appreciated, thank you very much. PS: Is it OK to upgrade now or will there be a new socket/CPU line coming soon? If so should i wait or will this setup last a a few years?
Instead of Ivy Bridge, you should go with a Haswell CPU and a 1150-socket mobo. Asus Z87-Plus or Z87-Pro. A bit cheaper is the H87-Pro motherboard. Add an Intel i5 4670k and you are good to go. Check the DRAM on Asus' QVL list for the motherboard you choose to make sure it's qualified to work. The 87 chipsets are dual channel, so make sure to get a dual channel kit (two same RAM sticks).
Hmm 4670k, i didn't notice this one, thank you. OK so i've been checking and came up with this: - G.Skill PC3-17000 2133Mhz Sniper 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 - ASUS Z87-Pro - Intel 4670K Is this ok? There's two versions of this RAM, one CL11 and one CL9, i know this has to do with overclock, the cost difference is 20€, is the difference that much to the point that's worth to pay the difference? There's also this ones: - G.SKILL PC3-14900 1866Mhz 8GB Sniper CL9 (2x4GB) DDR3 Thanks again.
CL isn't noticeable in normal usage. It might help up your scores in a memory benchmark though. Check the RAM product ID against the motherboards QVL to see if they have been qualified. As a dual channel kit, they probably are.
What are the voltages on those kits? I would suggest the CL9 personally but if they are both under 1.6V either will work.
Oh and don't forget a CPU cooler for socket 1150. The stock coolers are not so great for overclocking.
They are exactly 1.6 Volts at CL11 CL9 Ones are 1.65v Info was taken from official website. The cooler that came with the Q9550 was pretty good, it never got past 60ºC under Heavy Load even in Summer. But i bought a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and it never gets past 45ºC under heavy load with it and OC. I don't plan to OC the new CPU anytime soon as i believe i won't need to, if i do then i'll get the cooler. That would be great indeed, unfortunately i can't atm. Besides i'd rather wait for Next Gen ones. The 570 is still awesome even with the bottlenecked caused by the Q9550.
If you overclock Q9550 should not bottleneck much card like GTX570 but still... Anyway wait for HD 9xxx then think about GPU upgrade.
It does, because right now it's running at 3.6Ghz or i get BSOD, however when i use it at 3.8Ghz and run benchmarks, the GPU score is Higher. That's what i'm waiting for, unless nVIDIA pulls up something nice, such as new feature.
if you can go for at least 2133 on the rams your imc should handle that no problem, If you have a microcenter near you their intel cpu prices cant be beat
Not a big issue, i can wait. That's what i'm going for. - G.Skill PC3-17000 2133Mhz Sniper 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 - ASUS Z87-Pro - Intel 4670K
