I'll most likely be too busy playing Diablo III :nerd:

It will probably be a pretty good game though.

If they had released this like 2 months ago I would have bought it to pass the time until D3, but now it's just too late. I might grab it when it's on a Steam Xmas sale for £5.

I think it's a shame there was no gamepad support on the first or second of this game.

The controls are so simplistic I think it easily could have been done.

Definitely buy. Very interested to see how it compares to D3.

I have no doubts Torchlight II will be super fun, but it has already been explained:

Except when it was made by most of the original Diablo II team. ;)

Looking forward to playing this, Path of Exile (just downloaded beta) and Diablo 3, but I believe Grim Dawn will wipe the floor with them all ! ;D

You wait for one action rpg then 4 or 5 of them come along at once.
My mouse clicking finger is already starting to ache at the thought of playing through all of these.:)

They also made the original torchlight game and that was fairly shallow. Biggest problem here is timing. It's coming out 2 months or so after d3. Not good. I'll still buy but not until q4.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but diablo 1/2 were also extremely shallow; such is the nature of isometric action RPGS.

    Typical gameplay

    Step 1:

    *left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click**right click**right click**right click**right click**right click**right click**left click**left click**left click**left click**left click*

    Step 2
*Talk to merchant/quest marked NPC, skip all the text, sell items/go to location marked on map

    Step 3
    Repeat step 1

    /

Torchlight was as diverse as Diablo 2, maybe moreso with an out of the box world editor.

Probably, as it's one of the games I've anticipated for long.
But I'm afraid it'd be overshadowed by...Shadowrun Returns. *cue lame pun*

For a game with random dungeons, a 'bazillion of drops' (credit goes to Gearbox), an included editor, and a modding community, it's about as 'shallow' as any Diablo-esque games.
For a $15 game with Steam cloud and SteamPlay, that chump change (relative to what most AAA titles cost these days) certainly bought me a lot.

    Story?
Yeah...even in D3 beta no one actually cared about story after the first run to the finish (of the playable chapter) and just blast along on consecutive runs.
Ask any D2 vets whether they remember characters more than character classes and skills.

But hey, don't take anything too seriously from someone who also likes Dungeons of Dredmor; might be very biased. ;)

Diablo 1/2, Torchlight are hack&slash games...with minor RPG elements.

But, Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 were themed to be around with a bit of grit. Torchlight 1/2 looks very cartonistic to take it serious.

They were definitely themed differently, but that doesn't mean that Torchlight sucked. It was a great game, it just wasn't dark.

The original doesn't have multiplayer, does it? I like arpgs with multiplayer. Single player just gets boring quick. I will actually give the original another go tonight.
