I've been nominated twice and twice refused. I do my own bit every month for charity without being out of pocket more.
Glad i don't have a fb account. More, maybe that thing started on good premise ,raising money for a cause, but somehow i feel that lost all that and became something else. One can donate to charity, volunteer without blowing one's own trumpet.
Because it's armchair activism/clicktivism. Aids, cancer, Uganda Kony 2012, child hunger, discrimination, equal rights, save the planet, boycott this, petition this. Don't forget this weekend to be part of the cause. What cause? Who cares. It's just nice to feel a part of something.
Guys, what about people who donate, volunteer ,teach ,give food and shelter almost daily? For sure they are part of something. And they are the unknown heroes of the day.each day.without pouring iced, water on their heads.
Only a forum could make such an unnecessary fuss over something as simple as pouring water on your head
Slacktivism. I find this $hit so intolerable because its such a trendy pile of BS. Nobody gives a crap about ALS a day in their life and suddenly they are doing this challenge and posting it all over the place.. and then some people do it without even donating! Seriously.. its this type of stuff that makes me hate humanity... so many brain dead followers that do things and they don't even know why they do them, so long as someone gives them attention. Puke. The whole stupid challenge is unnecessary.. I wouldn't even mind it if it wasn't thrown in my face every place I look.. so yes, its stupid and annoying and unavoidable, like hearing a terrible song track in a grocery or department store.. its insulting.
I don't really see much of it about, some on twitter, the odd post on a forum, but as I am not on Facebook, it's not in my 'face' everywhere I look at all
The people I know who are doing it are donating as well! They all do their little speach about it being for ALS, and text whatever number it is to donate a fiver. Admittedly it's all a bit silly, but hey if it raises more money for the charity then who cares. I'm in two minds about donating to charity, the government spends quite a lot of my tax money on charities so...
Well its great to find people you went to high school with. its more a social thing. i understand this is the hard part for some people, but for me its great. restore old friendships.
