What is a ULPS ?

Yeah I use MSI Afterburner, monitoring it via the screen on my G13.

 

ULPS= ugly longtime people shaging

 

i'd assume the new zero power feature requires a competent mobo that can handle a whole device turning itself off (aka updated bios, mobo that's not too out of date, correct power settings in bios, etc)

 

Somewhat necro-bump, but I'm still curious about this.

It's possible that in the last 10+ the drivers have changed such that disabling this setting no longer gives the 'improvements' it once did. Not because they stuffed up the disabling of it, but because the action of the setting has been improved. Just a suggestion.

 

How does ULPS affect a dual-gpu card? Like my Asus ARES II?

 

ULPS is "the truth".

 

I guess the second GPU turns off. Since the ARES II comes with only one set of outputs, the second part of the card does not have any display components to turn off.

 

Well in my case, it seems ZeroCore likes to not actually resume display automatically (I think ZeroCore is tied to ULPS). I don't really require a low-power state though.

I was wondering how, or if, ULPS can actually bypass the PLX bridge and if I'd risk any damage to my card by disabling ULPS using Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 6.

 

damage!? the gpu is either on or off, what damage?

i'd imagine it's as if you opened a game constantly... but if it's quake1 with a 30fps cap, that's pretty much no gpu load

the real damage comes from high temps & full load for years, maybe some OC as well

 

Thank you. Since I don't know anything about the technical aspects of videocards, this is why I come to Guru 3D.
I tried the same OC as Hilbert has shown in his review of the ARES II, found it to be completely stable with no excessive temp. spikes and have it as the highest OC in my Afterburner Profile. Also stock voltage as it needed no more.
I erased the Afterburner Beta program and installed the last final version, 3.2.1. as I don't need the extra OCing controls of the Beta version.
Still, I'd like to know if ULPS can, or cannot, bypass the PLEX chip.

 

does NVIDIA mobile gpu has ULPS key on registry setting??? like AMD mobile gpu...

 

Its better to keep it default
