So I'm curious Gurus, how many of you play an instrument as a hobby or even moreso than that, if so, what do you play, how long for, etc. Play in a band? Post a link, let us listen! Personally playing: Bass (9 years) Guitar (8 years) Drums (2 years on and off) Keyboards (2 years (very, very badly, still can't get the hang of it). Vocals (if that counts, and I really can't sing well). Musical projects/bands: Got a number of these on the go... Tower of Waves (ambient/jam black/post/doom/prog/post-rock/metal mix): www.bandcamp.com/towerofwaves. Bataan (black metal, still writing atm, hence no site yet). As-of-yet-unnamed prog-metal project. As-of-yet-unnamed-blues-band (when our bassist returns from his round the world escapade). And numerous other older projects which have died/I've moved on from including power metal bands, thrash bands, etc. So go on, post yours!
I did the whole instrument thing through the public schools system. I started with Piano (outside of school) when I was 6, I think. Later I moved to clarinet, to alto tenor and then baritone sax. I then got sick of playing one note at a time and breathing so I moved to guitar. I still play guitar. Played in a few "bands", some organized, some not. I prefer to stay out of bands now because of egos. Damn drummers always try to kick me out
I do play a bit of occasional piano. Love the sound of it. Nice to hear we have other people (also) playing instruments though.
Bass (2013 - 1976 = 37 years, OMG)! Started on a Montgomery Wards cheapie in '76, I still have my Gibson Grabber (sliding pickup version) I bought in '78, pull it out of the closet and play it occasionally.
Been playing guitar for 20+ years. Play in a rock covers band in the weekends. Mark Knopfler made me pick it up.....Joe Satriani keeps me inspired.
I did 8 years of vocal lesson (classical) from 1999 to 2007. I'm a high baritone. Can't reach the high notes properly to make me a tenor. I've been singing and conducting in several choirs since 1998 till 2012, when the baby came and took all my spare time. I play the piano/keyboard, guitar (not too good), and recorder. I really want to play clarinet, oboe and other wind instruments, but they are so very expensive here. I rather spend my money on computer ahaha.
guitar, drums and piano (a little). haven't had the opportunity to really get it going on a band.. but i do play with my guitar at least once a day. as for the drums, i never had my own.. but i do know how to play it.
Piano lessons for 4 years, Played trumpet for about 5 years Currently I only play guitar (since about 2006), and I have a MIDI keyboard that I use to control some VST synthesizer stuff. That is quite fun.
This is me in all my glory http://beegeesstory.com/PromoVideo.html Been doing this for 25 years! Beats getting a real job I'm the Barry Gibb clone!
my main thing is the electric Guitar, been playing for many years (at least 15). i own 5 guitars, a Peavey Predator, Fender Strat, Jackson Performer, JS100 and a Jackson Soloist, with the exception of the Peavey and Fender, i installed Fernandes Sustainers in the latter guitars. i also play Keyboards (since i was 6 years old) and own 2, one is a casio the other is a big roland keyboard. i wrote countless instrumentals at home, just a hobby, i shared one last month on Guru3D, it's called My Girl. https://www.box.com/s/m074yevrkhbhs2078nzs my favorite guitarist was, is and will always be Neal Schon. here's a Videoclip of me playing a cover of "Mariah Carey - Hero" (with distortion) and wearing Michael Myers mask  for fun.
