dont get a top card they are generally terrible, you can probably get a 770 for less than a 680. a 770 is a 680 refresh, slightly higher clocks than a 680

It would be mindless to buy a GTX680 at this moment especially top.

    Wait little more...

Hey, seriously the new series is coming out in less then a month just wait.

The TOP cards are terrible because the cooling solutions on them are not positioned well, they crash a lot and are prone to overheating.

Just wait a bit more, if you have until now.

You're still thinking about which GPU to buy? It's been quite a long time, it doesn't need that much.

If the rumors are true, just wait a few days for pricing and performance numbers of the rumored GTX770.

TOP series have unstable BIOS, don't do it.

Agreed, best of waiting till the 7 series comes out, as that may push the prices of the 7 series thats already out now down a bit, so you may get a one cheaper, than if you bought a one now. :)

No it isnt, but he would be mad to buy a 770 now when Nvidia are bringing them back out again in a couple of weeks time, as he may find the one he bought has dropped in price then. :)

No experience of the TOP cards, but from what people are saying, id stay away from them, and go for another brand.

^ It's really no different from the Fermi refresh most current 6xx owners will wait on maxwell however fermi users will have a deacent upgrade.

Between the TOP and the Lightning, the Lightning is by far the better card.

    Why ? :

Two slot cooling, all critical components cooled properly, dual BIOSs, better over clocking options, still able to adjust voltages without the need for hard mods, I own them, etc, etc...

If they weren’t the better card I wouldn’t have bought two of them, but I can’t recommend them as the best chose to purchase at this time... for obvious reasons already pounded on above.

Yeah, waiting at this point is the best option.

As far as the 680 goes, I’d only recommend the Lightning’s... but they are getting very hard to find, 670, 7950 and 7970 would be my next suggestions if the 700 series is too much at launch. I’m not expecting to see big price drops on current cards in the next month or two.

That is only true for the GTX 770 and below. The GTX 780 is a great improvement over the GTX 680. Expected 20-35% gain over the 680 depending on the app/game.

Mind you that is stock vs stock. We haven't seen a 780 OC'd yet.
