Nowadays games are being made for the new consoles. The PS4 has 8GB DDR5 so of course 3GB VRAM won't be enough. You'll want AT LEAST titans.

You do realize that 8GB of DDR5 has to cover everything from the OS, games RAM needs and also the games VRAM needs right?

    I'm rockin 2gb of fury.

Now that new consoles are out I think us pc gamers will hit another upgrade lull. Between the release of the last gen and new gen of consoles I was running a gtx480 and really only needed to upgrade to a gtx680 just last spring. Be in mind I only play on a 1080p monitor so I don't need the juice to up the resolution. We can thank consoles for inhibiting graphics progression but also helping our wallets.

    It has 6GB.

I still wonder why they havn't sorted SLI Memory out. Must be possible one way or another to double it instead of mirror.

I understand what you are saying, don't worry, some people think they are so elevated that they are the only ones who can have an opinion.

Did i mention Watch dogs? No, i dont think i did.

Im talking about games where you can use high levels of sgssaa and / or ogssaa, which are primarily dx9 based games... if you like me like to use high levels of ogssaa along with texture mods, then vram consumption explodes - much more so than gpu power reqruirement. And this is where it would have been nice with more vram.

tinfoil gfx cards are the best, over 3gb vram for sure

Nvidia cards use NVAPI to report VRAM usage, not DXK. NVAPI measures the total amount of dedicated graphics memory in use, not just what has been pre-allocated (like swap buffers).

Dedicated memory is the actual VRAM soldered to your card, so yes it means something.

Watch Dogs maxes out all my vram plus nearly 6GB of system memory, so that's 9GB for the very first scene; which is inside a building - and the graphics don't even look that great. (Quite similar to ME3 I thought).
9GB would be OK on a large open world engine, (like Skyrim or BF4, or FarCry), but WD doesn't quite justify it's massive resource usage....imho.

    ^Speaking of vram allocation

This is how dx sees it

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780
    Display Memory: 4095 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 2962 MB
    Shared Memory: 1133 MB

this is how driver sees it

Total available graphics memory: 11232 MB
Dedicated video memory: 3072 MB GDDR5
    System video memory: 0 MB
    Shared system memory: 8160 MB

    I know it has.

    I was being sarcastic :p

This thread looks similar to the 2GB/4GB one.

Depends on the resolution. A higher resolution taking up more VRAM is nothing new, people said the same when 1080 was still going mainstream. If a trashcan game like WD is stuttering, it's because of the game's poor optimization. I'll happily take that "lousy" graphics card off your hands.

That is the very definition of sli. Mirroring the same exact data 1 gpu vram to the other. That is how sli works. My 3gb 780ti have 3gb of usable memory. Not 6gb.

Well WD swallowed up 3GB + 6GB on my rig @1800x1440 according to AIDA64. Then I switched to 1600x1200, and it still ate up 9GB.

To me that seems far, far, beyond the scope of normal resource usage. This thread serves no real purpose anyway, we're just repeating what's been said 100 times already.

Im 100% certain that the issue with Watch dogs is, that its been written for the unified memory the ps4 is using, and we simply got a port of that. But as pc doesnt have unified memory, it just dumps the majority of it on the vram instead.
