Some Windows 8 benchmarks

  1. Windows 7 vs 8 benchmarks *results*

Just felt like posting my personal results of Win 7 vs Win 8 for gaming/3d rendering perf. Naturally as it's still "beta" Win 8 most likely won't be outperforming Windows 7, but I've got to admit from what I found despite being @ a "Consumer preview" stage of dev. Windows 8 isn't performing bad at all, in fact I found it faster in terms of general use (navigating the OS, installing apps, load times, etc...) Which is nice, but obviously as it's pre-release there still are many bugs, the system crashed a few times while testing in Win 8, especially the gaming benchmarks but beyond the rare crash here and there it ran really well, can't wait to see what MS has in store for Win 8 come Q4 2012 or Q1 of next year. *please dont start a metro ui flame war I'm only commenting on the competent dev work MS side* So without further adieu here's what I got..
Listed specs in profile are test platform. OSs installs are x64. Res. for all 1920x1080. Win 8 edition is Consumer preview w/th latest drivers, etc

lol, I had to shrink the text anyway to fit the images on screen.
A bit smaller images would be helpful ;)

    Thanks, much better :)

Does gaming 'feel' smoother on Win 8?

  11. It's odd really because I kept saying the same thing to myself while playing skyrim on Win 8, somehow it just "felt" smoother, but as tests show windows 8 isn't outperforming win 7 according to fps results. I don't know, maybe it's placebo effect but for some odd reason it just felt 'smoother', as if there was no micro-stuttering or a heck of a lot less than win 7 *don't get me wrong it's nothing too 'noticeable'. I'm not saying win 7 "stutters"* but to answer your question, at least with a few games I tried it felt smoother. Could be a driver thing maybe the way it's handling pre-rendering or tex streaming or something.....beats me.... *shrugs* odd though. But I will say one thing, loading times were a little faster for me, which was nice.

Its possibly placebo but I have a feeling its down to more streamlined code and system design so there is less system activity.
First thing I noticed (after Metro) was the practically zero cpu use when idle.
In Windows 7, I have an average of 3% CPU use on one core constantly being used for interrupts, sometimes jumping to 9% - while idle.

I've yet to try gaming so thanks for the results.

  13. Sure my pleasure! & that's really true, I did notice Win 8 does manage/utilize sys resources better... I still can't wait to see what a few more revisions and updated drivers will do...I just hope all/most manus that supported win 7 support and post win 8 drivers bfr or @ launch, unlike in the past where I've had to wait a month or two...
