3770K De-lidded and lapped With Liquid Pro - Awesome results.

    Hi Guys,
    Took the plunge and de-lidded my 3770K as even with my huge loop, 90c at 1.28v and 4.7ghz was stopping me testing any further and I really want some more clocks. Also, my core temps were very uneven which has always niggled me.

    Plus - I just wanted to do it for the hell of it, so off we go... :)

    Quick test beforehand using ten runs of IBT on normal yield the following results.


    • Idle Core 1 = 31c
    • Idle Core 2 = 26c
    • Idle Core 3 = 29c
    • Idle Core 4 = 23c

    • Max Core 1 = 76c
    • Max Core 2 = 88c
    • Max Core 3 = 83c
    • Max Core 4 = 79c

    After the work was completed, I performed the same test, and yielded the following results.

    • Idle Core 1 = 27c (-4c)
    • Idle Core 2 = 24c (-2c)
    • Idle Core 3 = 26c (-3c)
    • Idle Core 4 = 22c (-1c)

    • Max Core 1 = 53c (-23c)
    • Max Core 2 = 56c (-32c)
    • Max Core 3 = 58c (-25c)
    • Max Core 4 = 54c (-25c)
    An incredible max improvement of 32 Degrees C!

    And importantly, the cores are now all within 5c of each other, instead of
    12c as they were previous, which I expect is a result of the lapping.

    Just to be sure it wasnt a fluke, I put on a quick double run on Max settings. results are almost identical. :)

    And that is pretty much that. All I can say is TAKE YOUR TIME.

    Rush this and you will slip and wreck her... but take your time and its very simple to do. :)

    The last pic with the liquid pro is very impressive no wonder your temps have plummeted, excellent thread, wow! good results man! :D

    you just lost the warranty and the possibility to resell the CPU .but you already knew that :3eyes:
    I attend to resell my 3570k later on so I will never attempt something like that ,,was tempted I must admit.
    The gain in temps is just phenomenal !:nerd:

    Nice thread. I lapped my IHS as well as the delid.

    Looks like your CPU performs exactly like mine. 1.29v for 4.7GHz or thereabouts. Max temps for me were around 62C.

    I didn't have time to get 4.8GHz stable, well not yet! :D.

    Could always super glue the ihs back on ;)

    All joking aside i would have no issues buying a delidded 3770K/3570K aslong as the owner demonstrated it worked perfectly

    Hi Newbie here, just signed up on the forums to comment on this thread. I just de-lidded my 3570k last night. I also have my syringe of liquid pro and cant wait to try reassemble. I have a quad rad and a apogee xt.

    I was wondering if OP had tried doing a direct die mount.

    If I go direct mount to the die, do you think i should lap the xt? I believe it is manufactured to be slightly convexed for mounting to non-lapped core2duos.

    Any help would be apprecited

    My i7-2700K is runing at 5.Ghz 1.34v max temp in prime 95 is 58.c :)

    Using XMPC water coling for cpu and gpu:)

    No - that was my next course of action if still unhappy, but its a bit more involved as it requires dissasembly of the ECU mounting framework.

    I didnt bother re securing the IHS. After 48 hrs it should be welded in place anyway. And its not like it moves about. :)

    After some tests and benching, my best overall settings with 100% stability are 45x103 for 4640mhz @ 1.27v with ram at 2200 with 1.55v.
    I have also brought PLL voltage down to 1.7 for less heat.
    So I have done some IBT tests set to max, with extreme ticked for ten runs using all the ram.

    Results are very impressive. A max of 54C.

    But perhaps even more impressive are the results of my same tests PASSIVE with no radiator cooling at all.
    (All cooling fans switched off except the 2x silent case fans to keep the Vregs cool.)

    Still a max of 67C. Well happy. :)

    will delid my cpu too after the guarantee is over, right now i'm pretty happy with mine maxing at about 75 °C LinX i really hope i will see some upper 50 °C too then

    @OP; well tbh your temps were crazy high from the beginning tbh. That high with liquid cooling with only 1.28v. Even though 4.7 @ 1.28 isn't that high at all.

    I wonder what did the actual thing? The lapping? The delidding? Maybe the reseat?

    Good work though. If I delid it I will put my liquid cooler on the bare die itself. But first will have to see how the temps will be when using it stock and OC-ing it with liquid cooling.

    The delidding did most of it, and the lapping got a couple degrees more.

    If you're talking about your 2500k, DON'T TRY to delid it. It's not using TIM between the actual CPU and the IHS unlike Ivy Bridge (the core is soldered to the IHS), and you would most likely kill the chip just trying to delid it.
    Anyway Sandy Bridge CPUs aren't touched by this temp problem. If it runs hot you just need more cooling :p

    @moab600 Like Agent-A01, my 2700K needs 1.35V for 5GHz too, and 1.4V for 5.26GHz, though 5.3 needs 1.45, and 5.4 needs 1.55. It did need more than that on my previous motherboard (a Gigabyte). Btw max883 does look like a troll indeed :D

    I hope you get good results, delidding your CPU ages you! The problem is not necessarily the TIM it could be the actual gap between the IHS and the die, so there becomes a point that no matter how good the cooling there is just simply nothing that can be done to lower the temps.
