Hello everybody. Some time ago I cleaned my GTX 295, including new thermal paste. After putting the card back together, it no longer gave image. There is a red led on the back side, wich should be green, meaning the card has power, the blue led however is working. It's not a psu issue. I was very carefully during the process of putting the card back together and while cleaning it, so i have no idea what went wrong. Heartbroken as i was, i replaced the faulty card with a another one. New, my new neigbour is a tecnician who has knoledge of pcbs and electrical components. I gonna turn the card in with him, see if he can fix it. Any of you guys got a clue where to look to fix the problem?(if possible).
Short circuit somewhere due to contact between the cooler's aluminum fins and a component on the PCB? No temperature issues could give such a sudden effect.
Brand is MSI, i think it has a plastic fan. By the way, i did not open the cooling block, just removed the 2 pcbs ans SLI cables.
I have had the same thing happen to me and one of my 295's did it before with gx2's and is same princible .I would just make sure sli cable is in its tabs and if you put the cage back on make sure your not grounding. Also try other dvi connector
I had the same with one of my Galaxy GTX 295 (2 PCB version) when I installed a water block. The sli cable seemed to only work one way, even though the it could be inserted either way and fitted snugly. Know the feeling when you finally disassemble and reassemble the card with all those screws and get no video output, even worse when the card was only 2 days old from new, not to mention I had the card in the water loop before I could check how it all went after assembly. Damn that was painful...lol Didn't make the same mistake on my 2nd card though...lol

I RMA'ed mine when that happened to me, they just gave me a replacement card of same (in this case, better) performance. I had an EVGA though, great customer support. Edit: Just to clarify, EVGA did not replace with a GTX 770 (I bought that recently).
Keeping in mmind what you guys posted, i dissassembled the card once more. I took two photo's of the pci-e connector and some is bothering me. To the right of the red box, there is missing a piece of gold plated of the connector. Another photo shows the same thing on the other side of te connector. Could this be the cullprit?
Those pci connectors look fine to me, mine were about the same. My money is on you have the sli bridge around the wrong way. As I said, it can fit either way, but only works one way, well at least that was the case for me. When I did my card, I initially paid no attention to the Sli bridge cable direction when I disassembled the card. Logically one would think if the cable was only meant to go one way then it would only fit one way. Then my logic was when you use sli bridge on a normal 2 single gpu cards set up, the the sli bridge works either way. After my first attempt assembly of my card and I got no video output, that blew my logic out the window..lol
So i dissassembeld the card once more, and fitted the sli bridges right this time, i hope. Little white arrows, on the pcbs and bridges, pointed out how to place the bridges. Gonna test tommorow, anticicpation...
Interesting. I also have a "dead" 295 lying around that failed to work after I switched the cooling solution. Could it be that easy? @Hellspawn: let us know the outcome!
As can be seen on image, connector may be symmetric, but wiring is not therefore having it wrong way may be cause for malfunction.
Glad I never took apart my 295s. Only thing I did was remove the outer shells. Still my favorite video card of all time
Same happened with my 295 when I took it apart to change the thermalpaste. It gave me red light error. Turned out to be the internal SLI cable which I had to reseat multiple times before it worked.
I can confirm it were the SLI bridges, i placed them according to the little white triangles printed on the pcb and bridge. The card is fully functional again. Rep to everyone, i'm so stoked, my 525€ card is up and running again.
