yeah flipping to the back buffer should reduce tearing.

120hz= ****ty TN LCD panel. I wouldn't use a TN panel if you paid me. Tearing also sucks so I'll happily have 60 frames with vsync.

There are plenty of games that still barely get 60 frames minimum ( and some average ) at 1080p maxed even on a gtx680 like crysis 2, crysis, crysis warhead, metro2033, just cause 2, the witcher 2, Hard Reset, AVP3, Batman AC, Saints Row 3.

Not even to do with that, as recently i have saw many fantastic quality 120hz screens.

It's just size and resolution, as shallow as it seems i'm very unwilling to go lower than the 47" screen i'm using, and the second best is a friends screen which is 30" 25x16 screen which is also 60hz, so until 120hz screens are a decent size and resolution they will always be poor purchases for many people.

I was told that vsync will slow your fps, so I used to keep it off. But after 2 times RMA, I keep it on. I'll suggest using fps limiter if you turn vsync off.

Agreed, She's been patched up a few times but it proved ineffective and has left her wide open to viral attacks.
LOD was a bit high afterwards so I clamped it, it didnt look pretty.

I always use vsync. I can't stand tearing so even the new adaptive vsync is not acceptable for me.

I probably have answered this thread already but I still use it all the time. I love the smoothness on my 75Hz 1080p IPS screen. I can't stand tearing anymore at all.

I play PC games online at a very high level and VSYNC impedes computers' ability for the mouse to function properly. Therefore, I don't use it. I also despise mouse lag so even if I didn't game so consistently I doubt I would use it.

Depends, if I play it laid back with my controller then yes.

But I don't use it for the games I play more competitively and prefer to have less input lag and more responsiveness

I always use vsync. I cannot do without it because of the screen tearing like others have mentioned. Adaptive vsync is of no use to me either.
I haven't noticed any input lag while using vsync in games or online in Trackmania multiplayer.
Can't understand how people can put up with screen tearing...?

Makes the game more stable graphics-wise. Some games do not play well with it on.

Yes, afaik it improves image quality, and most games runn well over 60fps .. wich is not needed :)

have it off since my quake3 times, didn't like the mouse lag back then, and now that i have a 120hz screen i never noticed any tearing.

i used to always use V-Sync with all games, but after playing TF2 with V-Sync off, it made a huge difference to input lag and the tearing wasnt particularly noticeable to me, even at 180fps. i may well have a bash with other games and see the difference V-Sync makes with them.

Completely pointless, you could turn off frame-limiter as well bacause you still got tearing.
Vsync ON + frame limiter is only way to correct tearing + input lag.

If you want to minimize input lag from Vsync, drop your FPS limit to something BELOW your monitors refresh rate and USE vsync.
You may experiment a bit with tripple buffering and render ahead set to 0.

People who use Vsync got no clue why they even need it.

    Vsync for movies = ok
    Vsync for games = never
