Makes me wonder how much do both companies do in terms of driver support for cards that are out on the market and if they are accidentally nerfing them in future release of new cards.

MY 560ti takes a raping in bf4. Time for a new card. The 1gb vram is really hurting it. Frame rate really isnt bad at 1200p. Im happy with all high settings.

Looks like BF4 is strictly a AMD game.

Not really, at 1200p the 290x only beats 780 by a few frames, also 7950 only just beats the 670 etc.

BF4 is a AMD gaming evolved title though, they showcased it on 7990 , and seeing these results it not a big surprise that they did.
Shouldnt we also expect a performance boost for AMD with the drivers coming up (reason why they delayed the 290 review) ?

That perf boost applies only to 290, not 290X. And considering I am testing with that driver, thus far I am not impressed by any perf improvements (based on that driver) at all.

Thanks a lot for a great review!

I find it hard to find difference between high and ultra quality. Where do I look?

Sorry if this is a noob question but what operating system did you use. if win7 I wonder if windows 8.1 will improve performance a lot. Thanks for the review at least. I just bought 2x Club3d royalking R9-280x cause it was on special at the shop and hard to resist and I already have a buyer. it will be amazing to see a R9-280x beating a 780 in this game once mantle comes out but then again maybe nvidia improved performance via driver updates etc etc.

    @Hilbert

It looks like your 290X is throttling badly in your 1440p test.
Could you check out the average core clocks during the run?

My 660ti is doing nicely in bf4 at 1440p.

I don't really notice much difference in IQ low-ultra ... mostly just shadows are clunkier and minor details less sharp on low.
Playing multiplayer on low settings getting 100fps on most maps.

Single player I never notice it drop under 50fps running high-ultra mix. No AA makes a huge difference (+10-15 fps) post process AA set to medium and hardly any noticeable artifacts.

I'm actually quite pleased with the performance of this game, I was expecting to want a new GPU as soon as I started playing.

Nice, must have taken quite some time to bench using all those cards!

By the way, why not use png compression for those image samples? bf4-ultra.bmp though OptiPNG would result in image that's 8,18 MB PNG vs. 23,7 MB BMP.

I was worried that the lack of memory on my 670's was going to be a problem, but playing it yesterday on 1920x1080 maxxed out, the cards handle it like a dream. Means i can wait for next gen GPU's before i need to upgrade

    :( I big time regret my 670 purchase over a 7950 now.
