See how far I can get it with the Noctua when the mounting ring arrives.

I've bought the mounting bracket (£8 off ebay) for my existing NH-D14. Will be using that for the interim. I may go H100 or similar again in the future, but don't hold your breath. Also considering transferring some of the 2000 MHz RAM out of my old rig. 50 GB/s bandwidth here we come :D

If you do decide to go with an AIO cooler,I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Swiftech H220. It's truly a BEAST of a cooler and it runs dead silent. I have mine with the pump and fans at maximum speed and I can barely hear it while heavy gaming.

Yes i wouldn't recommend the h100 either for the 3930k had it before my x60 kraken :)

Might be worth a look. Be interesting to see what I can get out of the Noctua first, though. Aiming for 4.4/4.5.

Had a H100i for a while but it died randomly one day during a restart, so went back to me Noctua.

I'm sure you will easily get 4.4 with the Noctura but I'm also sure that there will be a lot of noise. For quiet AND super cooling the H220 is the way to go. A bit expensive maybe, but well worth it. IMO. Good luck!

The Noctua's always been pretty damn quiet for me. The stock 140 mm fan for the middle's not noisy at all. Only thing I can hear atm from this rig is the stock cooler and the GFX cards when gaming.

The noctua will be sufficient for a while ;) enjoy your new setup :nerd:

Noctua is on (pics to follow), stressing with P95 @ 3.2 GHz, 1.14 V ish, maxing at 50 degrees on the cores. Time to ramp this sucker up :D

    4.0 GHz (100 x 40) @ 1.3 V, 60 *C average on the cores.
    4.2 GHz (100 x 42) @ 1.3 V, 64 *C average on the cores.
    4.3 GHz (100 x 43) @ 1.325 V, 70 *C average on the cores.

If your gonna go down the water route i would do it properly with the very finest of Custom parts. I wouldnt bother with any of those AIO coolers as they just dont cut it were it matters.

Oh I will mate. Had a bad experience with a H100i, randomly died on me. Sticking with high end air for now. Gunna see what Sandy Bridge is made of. This cooler got my old CPU to 4.5 GHz, so it really is good.

Cooling isn't really the problem here, hit a wall at 4.3 GHz, mainly due to the Vdroop on this board. With a setting of 1.35V in the BIOS (and max LLC), I'm still getting 0.03V of Vdroop, sometimes a bit more which isn't helping stability in the slightest. Methinks it needs a BIOS update, given it currently has the launch BIOS.

Did you adjust System Agent - Vccin?
Raise offset to 0.050 or 0.100v or 0.150v, it helps by internal cpu /ram /pcie IO stability.

I've read somewhere 1.10-1.20v is ok, I tested this on mine (max 1.10v) and yes it helped, I could also lower cpu voltage from 1.280v to 1.267v, but it also heat up about the same (default Vccin 0.808v).

Nah, not yet, none of that stuff is particularly relevant to core speed IIRC, apart from going high 4.X GHz or high speed with the RAM (next task), although it might be worth a try. The main gripe I've got is the Vdroop, currently running about 0.05V at 1.35 V set in the BIOS, and that's WITH max LLC.
