Really? They will be making Call of Duty for the new consoles? Who would have thought! Of course the game will still feel 'consolised', but at least in the short term hopefully some better graphics will filter through from 'Xbox Next'. Proper Directx 11.1 and better textures!
I could not think of one studio that I'd hope to see a new CoD from. Infinity Ward? Only a shadow of themselves, bled out. Treyarch? Just had their title and screwed up multiplayer. Sledgehammer? Well, after MW3 do I need to say anything more? I'm at a point where I'd look forward to see "HD" remakes. How sad.
What's *the* game? It's a series. I like some games better than others and, as I saw a bright light at the end of the tunnel when Black Ops came out, it got pitch black right afterwards with MW3 and BO2.
I know exactly what you mean. I just laughed because "innovative" and "Call of Duty" are about as mutually exclusive as you can get IMO. I'm pretty sure the next-gen versions of Call of Duty will be more of the same, only prettier and running at nearer 1920x1080 resolutions on the consoles and 60 fps rather than the pathetic 1024x600 they manage now. I very much doubt the gameplay will evolve in any meaningful way, except to perhaps become more online orientated with co-op campaigns and stuff, but the visuals may become more realistic with better animation and physics. But then what can you do with a first-person game where the whole point is just to shoot things until your brain expires from boredom? Call of Duty is never going to innovate in the same way that BioShock or Dishonored have because the fans expect a dumb action-heavy shooter. If the developers move away from that then they risk alienating the people who've made the series such a big hit. It's a victim of its own success really.
Why would they bother putting all that time into better visuals or animation when the fans that play the game don't give a damn? It will be the exact same game with different textures and a few new MP maps.
Think about soccer or football. They aren't exactly complicated either. Animations are still great and graphics, well, they were great in CoD 2. At the time. Since then they obviously didn't bother to change much. I guess we will see some change though as soon as the new consoles come out.
Lol .. I really doubt we will see major change. All we know what we have in Blops 2 PC will be the awesome sauce for the next consoles with maybe better textures.
Maybe I'm just hoping to see something, that's true. CoD never looked as old as it does now when it was a PC title. The first part looked good and the second part looked good. Even the 4th and 5th part looked fine. All were "heavy" enough on the system to need high-end hardware at the time. The series never had any "wow" factor like Crysis though and it always had its typical look/art. I'd think that, especially if other titles feature much better quality graphics on the new consoles, they will have to do something. The 60fps argument is only valid as long as noone else can do better.
Dunno why people hate so much. Blops 2 is always a blast with my friends when we play, we don't play seriously but for fun. multi-team is my favorite mode, especially when it's multi team - hardpoint.
Especially with friends the new system is a pain to use. We've had our own server for the last two years and one quarter to one third of all PC players solely play Hardcore. Maybe even more but as there are so few gamemodes available right now there's only so much to choose. The hate comes from "it could've been so much better if...".
Action FPS's in general lack innovation full stop, it's a tired, repetitive genre that has done nothing new for years. COD is no better, or worse, it just get attacked more because it's the most popular.
