"Windows 8.1 is rumored to bring back the Start button and boot-to-desktop..." Faith in Microsoft somewhat restored.
IMO, yes. It's quite annoying on a laptop that has no touch screen. Others will disagree and say it's the best thing since sliced bread, but they're loud minority. I'm with the majority who think it's the dumbest concept in the history of operating systems. Every time I start my laptop and see the Metro screen I think of this: No on can deny it was made for touchscreen mobile devices and only forced on everyone to get people adjusted to it. That's why they strongarmed everything and removed any code from Winblows that would have allowed disabling Metro/Ribbon. I find Ribbon more annoying than Metro after using Win 8 for a while. Microsoft know they're not Apple, they don't have a large cult following, they can't get away with charging for very small incremental updates.
Meh, I'll take the free update, it's free why not lol. I personally don't mind changes to my OS. Sure, Metro UX isn't the best design but it's not completely horrible like the detractors have stated. deltatux
Maybe add a shutdown button right there in the obvious? Heck add it anywhere faster to get to would be nicer by default than making your own shortcut. Not that it's a deal to do so, but is one larger tile icon sitting there that doesn't really fit in.
Thanks Microsoft for not trying to milk my nipples more than they already have been... EA has been at them for a while now and they are pretty tender.. So yeah.. thanks Microsoft///
We wouldn't know until it comes out. A new kernel revision is expected so that means Microsoft is working on the backend as well as frontend changes. deltatux
Alright. I just figured with it coming out in a little over a month, there would be some sort of "leak" somewhere about the performance. EDIT: Nevermind. Completely misread the consumer preview part wrong.
If windows 8 was a success there wouldnt be a 8.1 there would only be service pack updates. I hope it does boot directly into desktop mode as I can finaly delete classic shell. Also I hate how pictures and pdf files opened in the metro view, wasnt economical at all.
Don't know why Microsoft wanted to force us to use an operating system that's better suited for touch screen monitors when an decent quality and size monitor will cost more than $500.00+ range, the best ones are at lest $1000.00+, or as they say uber expensive.
As it should be, to the faithful who took the plunge, and gave Windows 8 a try. Now that I've grown accustomed to it, Windows 8 is really good. Even enjoy playing JetPack Joyride on occasion, with a little help from Cheat Engine 6.2.
Finally MS understands that people hate 8 and wouldn't bother paying extra for a service pack. Bring back boot to desktop and I just might bother changing 7 for 8..
Carry on the good fight o keyboard warrior! Out of interest when you first boot windows 7 and the desktop loads what is the first thing you usually click on?
