I'm upgrading my PC. I was wondering if I should get another 5850 in crossfire or buy an entirely new 7950. I'm getting a 3 years old 5850 from a friend for 100$.I'm pretty sure its never done any gaming. Will 5850cfx out perform a 7950? or should buy a new 7950 because I feel that Radeon 5000 series will soon lose support from AMD in a few months?:nerd::infinity:
hd 7950. performs about the same as 5850 cf, but you get more vram, no cf issues and driver support that will still increase performance a little bit.
I had an HD5850 CFX for two years, they performed fantastic and they still run Crysis 3 at 1080p with everything on high preset at 60fps most of the time. On the other han I just changed them a month ago for a HD7950 and it performs even faster plus the 3gb vram. If you have the money get the HD7950 hands down, but if you choose a second HD5850 you wont be dissapointed at all.
Not by far if both config are overclocked, I had my CFX at 850/1200 and compared with my HD7950 at 1100/1500 the difference in BF3, Crysis 3, etc. is around 15-20% at best. Guild Wars 2 is about the same performance. Now the real difference comes when you use high def textures in games, then the 3gb vram rocks
not only that but you will have far less temperature in your case and way less stress for your PSU, your electricity bill will thank you as well
