If Microsoft doesn't want Windows 7 to become the next XP, then they should hurry up and let users have a built-in option to choose between the classic and modern UI Windows 7 may be supported for many years still, but it has already gotten shafted in terms of not getting DirectX 11.1/11.2
if win 8 offered a huge improvement over win7 and it was cheaper or i could trade up then i`d think about it
I think that is plenty for 7, its already a solid OS, and if it's going to continue to be improved until 2015, I'd say critical patches until 2020 is fine I know I won't be using 7 anywhere close to 2015 onwards, I don't even have it installed on any machines any more (Which is the opposite of what I was saying when 8 RTM'd)
I don't plan to stop using W7 for quite a while. I'm used to it and i love it... Why change something that works so great.
I'll see what Windows 9 has to offer before I switch from Windows 7. Windows 8 is just godawful ugly and has an unnecessary Metro screen which I have to constantly skip back and forth to from Desktop mode. Get your Phone OS out of my desktop Microshaft! >.<
Maybe you should go read through the Windows 8 and 8.1 threads. There are a lot of us who are happy with it.
Still have a couple of those W8 'upgrade' discs lying unopened in a drawer somewhere. Just like Windows 7 too much to consider making any sort of move just yet. Anyway, I use a live Linux cd for online banking purposes, and have long lost my sense of 'adventure' by leaving dodgy websites alone.
It is worth upgrading, it's just the dissenters are a lot louder than those who are perfectly fine with it. I've been perfectly fine with Windows 8 after a month of actually using it. At first I had issues with it but then I just adapted, just like every other OS I've used be it Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, Android, iOS, Symbian, BB OS, BB10 or what not. deltatux
Long as most game developers make games for windows I will just use the latest bs version only to play games. For everything else I do I use Debian so Microsoft can kiss my ass.
I don't mind the people that are happy with W8, but why should i have to pay a 140$ for an operating system i don't need or want, just because M$ wants money? Trying to force people to upgrade is ridiculous. W7 is perfectly applicable for everything i do, and honestly i have no use for a "touch" based interface. Sure it has the regular desktop but my point is it provides me nothing of interest W7 can't offer.
