I'm trying to add duck duck go as a search engine in firefox but I get the error that a search engine with that name already exists but it doesn't show up in options or the search bar. How do I fix this?

Seems to be a common issue

    Workaround install this addon
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/

    1. Add the Firefox plug-in “Add to Search Bar”
    2. go to https://duckduckgo.com/settings
    3. set your region, language and other preference
    4. click “Bookmarklet and settings data” at bottom of the page
    5. click the long URL revealed by the bookmarklet
    6. right click the DDG search dialog box and select “Add to Search Bar...”

    https://duck.co/forum/thread/7217/can-t-add-the-firefox-search-engine

EDIT - You can't just select it from here if you select Restore defaults from the bottom?

Firefox 53.0 gets released via FTP, not available via autoupdate yet
    FF Win32bit
    FF Win64bit
    release notes:

    • Lightweight themes are now applied in private browsing windows
    • Reader Mode now displays estimated reading time for the page
    • Windows 7+ users on 64-bit OS can select 32-bit or 64-bit versions in the stub installer

    Fixed

    Changed

    • Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported. XP and Vista users running Firefox 52 will continue to receive security updates on Firefox ESR 52.
    • 32-bit Mac OS X is no longer supported. 32-bit Mac OS X users can switch to Firefox ESR 52 to continue receiving security updates.
    • Updates for Mac OS X are smaller in size compared to updates for Firefox 52
    • The last few characters of shortened tab titles fade out instead of being replaced by ellipses to keep more of the title visible
    • Ended Firefox Linux support for processors older than Pentium 4 and AMD Opteron
    • New visual design for audio and video controls

    Developer

    • Support for WebM video with alpha, which allows playing videos with transparent backgrounds

I've got mine marked with a legacy label but it disabled a few which aren't multiprocess compatible. Biggest loss was refcontrol but I've another one installed which seems to be maintained in its place for now. I'll also be needing a substitute for no youtube comments :p I tried a script and it didn't work. Bleh.

There a way to remove that "added security" bull**** that is now in autocomplete forms for passwords\usernames? Absolutely the dumbest feature Ive ever seen in a browser and might finally ditch FF if this cant be removed.

tsunami231 found a workaround for that in post #1112

about:config -> security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled ...and set it to: false

yah this tweaks is must, without it ,it even says my "router" is insecure..

That warning freaks out 3 people that use ff I had take a road trip 3 times to find out the issue was over this warning.

I get why it there but putting that warning in the "user/pass" field is stupid, a pop up window with warning and check box to dont show this again would been way better.

Thank you all a ton. I probably could have googled this... but its so stupid I cant believe they added this feature (like this). I thought I screwed something up.

Quick heads up that might be of interest. For Linux at least Firefox generates core dump files which might a security risk as can contain stored passwords. Firefox also uses over 800mb of ram.

Small change to the title bar of the default theme on windows 10 and mac os. I think it is nightly only for now.

"browser.uidensity" to 1 also toggles a thinner address bar if you're interested. Nightly again.

I normally add the bookmarks bar. Which probably makes it more or less the same size overall?
