As I understand, this works with the "13.1 Reloaded" package?

It works with every package. Modded or Non-modded.

I tested this on my Windows 8 pro after installing Kev's legacy drivers.

It reports several errors in the install log. Is this normal becasue the driver is already installed?

How can I tell if it has been successfull?

What errors did you receive? There shouldn't be any.

    EDITED
I think the problem you are currently experiencing is on my end. I need to look into this further.

    UPDATE 2
Fixed the problem, you can try installing the mod now.

Any way to inject a replacement .sys file on Windows 8 x64 using the .inf mod while leaving alone the other one intact for the 2D part that can't be updated ?

(I haven't tried .inf mod or experimenting because i'm on a rest day)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the Windows 8 legacy mini port drivers we're left behind with BSOD 0x116 on legacy from a cold start with certain cards, but a warm restart is fine. It's not strictly a crossfire issue either.

Windows 8 and old legacy drivers problem...much older drivers forced into windows 8 are even worse, they just freeze instead of BSOD at powerup phase.

Newer post legacy driver's Windows 8 specific kernal mini port drivers *do* work on legacy because of hybrid graphics support and stop the steady stream of BSOD's on legacy cards under Windows 8.

The clock bug is in the 2D component, and it can't be updated to non legacy anyway so it doesn't really matter...just atikmpag.sys that needs replacing from say 12.8 or 12.10.

And the bsod's will stop....according to my testing. Be nice if you could reference 2 catalog files in an .inf to get around this but you can't.

Windows 8 x64 KPP is a total bitch...in windows 7 test mode you can do this kernal file mixing, but it's not broke under Windows 7.

I think I can come up with a method for using multiple sys files from one driver, I've had it in mind for a few days now in which I did create a successful installation without the need for test mode but the installation had too many errors and it was not a method that I favored. Though since then I've been working out a plan in my head as to how I want everything to look and install. I will update you on that later. I will start working on it tonight. By the way, using different Sys files, may prove to be a bit trouble some. However, If you plan to use the driver within Test Mode only, the INF mod should be valid for mixing SYS files.

    EDITED
Have you ever installed a Windows 7 Driver in Compatibility Mode (did it work on windows 8 as it did on Windows 7?)

I want to use a Windows 7 Driver as the Base for Windows 8.....Ill check and see if the one I am currently using freeze or crashes at powerup.

I think I may have found a way of defeating the annoying patchguard and mixing .sys files without test mode. Needs more testing, this is only on Windows 7 so far.

I re-builded my own security catalogs for modded drivers as well. And as a result on Windows 8, this means you can tamper and alter the .inf as long as you rebuild the catalogs for 3 OS's and do everything correctly. :)

It's all a bit complicated to explain everything I did on the first test run.

There are warning's about tampered .sys files in the installation of the drivers, but the system still loads them despite being mixed and matched with no code 52 in device manager and no test mode needed. :)

I have been working on this one till 5am. :)

Yes this is the method I use for my Universal INF Mod. However after rebuilding the catalogs you should now be face with a message stating the driver is unsigned on reboot.... Although in Windows 8 the patch guard requires the driver to be signed.

Windows 8 requires the driver to contain a signed .cat for the .inf as well
(because .infs can't be signed directly) unlike not having to sign cat files on Windows 7.

Complicated stuff unless you know what your doing...

Kev have you tried using the 12.3 catalyst driver on windows 8?

The method you Can use to continue modding on Window 8 is by using the 12.3 catalyst and modding it with your files then use the Universal INF MOD to upgrade the Version.

This way you still have the Multi GPU Clock Fix with all your other improvements.

You probably won't be able to use the Unified API.

I've tested the 12.3 Catalyst for windows 7 on Windows 8 and it seems to work without any problems (The Camera APP is working).

I Think I will make a 12.3 Catalyst Base for Windows 8 Legacy Users.

Express uninstall everything using Uninstall Manager... Install Kev Modded Driver, then try installing the INF mod.

Did you install the Display driver in Kev package or the whole package?

I don't think you should expect to see a big improvement in performance with this mod since it's not an actual Driver. The 7900 mod by Asder should only slightly improve your overall fps.

Where is this camera app for me to test ? 12.3 video .dll's are very ugly for 5K mobility series (black screen).

I think it's more important to have game fixes for poor crossfire performance like TESV (skyrim) than to have hardware accelerated video when software options are available in VLC and flash.

You have to be very careful mixing and matching components because it is very easy to knock out the hardware accelerated rendering in flash in full screen (although the h/w accelerated decoding is fine), and it's not just dependant on the right video components to work correctly.

    Not that simple. :)

I have now completed the mod, just need to make some final adjustments then I will upload it to this forum and also my other forum post.

As you said hardware acceleration for flash videos in windows 8 is very sensitive and can easily be broken. So I will add that to my list of things that I will attempt to correct or at least try to improve.

I can't fix it on Windows 8 without green screens, good luck. :)
