Hi, one of my pcs has a dual core e5200 cpu and 2gb ram. I use this pc to download 1080p movies which are usually around 10 gb. The problem is that unpacking such a large archive takes me 25-30 minutes. I wonder what might solve this situation. Would buying an ssd be a good solution or is it just the slow cpu?

Not downloading pirated movies should solve this problem. Movies are usually already compressed and can't be compressed any further.

What program do you use to extract them.I find on my home server a dual core with 4-8 gigs of ram helps.

I use Winrar 64 bit. So the Ram may be the problem?

unzipping is pure CPU performance. So if you want to speed it up, you'll need faster CPU with more cores. SSD and memory don't have much influence.

You could also overclock you CPU, but it won't dramatically boost speed.

Since when did performance issues become pirate material. And also, he never mentioned anything illegal.

What legitimate website lets you download compressed 1080p movies?

*wah wah* the anti piracy brigade is here.

A faster CPU and more RAM would help immensely in your case. There's little you can do about it.

Look guys, unpacking have much relation to CPU, but he have different problem. Without much information, like OS used, other hardware used, compression ratio etc. we can just guess that CPU will help.

My old Athlon II x2 (dual core), extracted 2GB in matter of seconds... not sure, but no more than 20-30 or so..., so i doubt CPU is the problem.

OK, thanks for the answers. Ill add another 2gb ram first and Ill see that it does. Eventually will try to find some quad core cpu.

    Pretty much every torrent site.
I mean I get your point, but people take this way too seriously.
"Oo hey I'm a dick I won't help you because you probably download illegally, btw I probably something similar."

Had he asked the question avoiding this pirating business people are glad to help. As long as people aren't posting illegal links or means on how to get to that content (not that it's hard to find), who cares, no harm done to this forum (quite the opposite) and he gets his help.

But hey, everybody has their opinions and we should probably keep them to ourselves.

Yeah but not all archives contains videos for example, and even if do, there is no copyrighted material also.

For example, i used torrent (p2p) network for getting some projects (free, not copyrighted since they was created by community) you can't get other way, and archives was quite large. Just saying.

Do what you want, don't talk about piracy here.
