would it be worth it to upgrade:bang: memory from 16 gb to 32 gb and up frequency to 1866 mz or would it be a waste of money or should i get a new ssd - i have an old mushkin 120gb ssd .........thanx .peter
16 => 32 depends on applications you run. If professional ones like video-editing, 3D-modeling, then worth it will be.
jesus. what's up with threads like this recently? OP, you can't just ask if it's worth going from 16 to 32gb. You have to tell us what you use your rig for? How else are we supposed to tell you yay or nay? If you mostly game, don't bother. even 8gb is plenty.
Mainly gaming? hell no. Get an SSD instead. Do a lot of virtualization work and/or scientific/modelling work? Sure why not? Tbh, most gamers only need 8 GB atm, anything more is excessive. I have 16 GB only because I run a lot of virtual machines for my field of study. Hell, ever since I went back to Linux, I technically don't even need more than 4-6 GB since Linux is just that memory efficient lol. deltatux
Had the same upgrade decision as well and decided to upgrade my intel 520 120gb ssd OS drive to a samsung 840 pro 250gb ssd, glad i went with a larger ssd than more ram
As pointed out, for gaming there is no benefit having more ram. Same for memory speed, you wont see any difference.
Only Home Premium doesn't support more than 16 GB if you have Professional or higher it supports up to 128 GB of RAM. deltatux
First of all you have not given us any info for what you use your pc for.I assume you only use your pc mainly for gaming and surfing the net and maybe a few apps that don't even need 32gb and have some money to spend and can't decide what to upgrade to make your pc even better, well 16gb at 1600mhz is more than enough and you won't see any gains at all upgrading to 32gb at 1866mhz in gaming or just windows responsiveness.I vote for getting a new larger capacity ssd than ram or even better seeing you have a 2700k cpu at 4ghz get a decent cpu cooler and overclock that beast to lets say 4.5ghz or even higher, now that will give you a nice free upgrade in performance...or if you are into gaming don't spend your money on anything yet and save up for a better GPU.. Just giving you some blind advice on what you can do...
