5 short post beeps.

Could it be my cpu is dead? Is there any way of saving it? And would my motherboard be ok still?

5 short ------------ Processor error ------------- The system CPU has failed

Unless you have another motherboard to test your only options are to have a tech place test it for you or RMA it.

 

It could be board itself not a CPU. Test both parts individually.

Had an old borked board laying around, and gave it a try. Bingo it worked.

* When I say borked, I mean a couple of memory channles don't work. *

CPUs don't generally die, not impossible but 99% likely the board instead

Looked at google and pooped my pants.

 

lol, I've blown them up with conductive thermal paste on CPU pins, big flash, CPU fine, board dead

My boss got mad and flung a chip across the shop, bounced off a couple of walls, bent all the pins, spent my lunch straightening them just to see if it still worked, perfectly fine lol

 

You poor bugger lol.
