"I am looking for the Gainward fx5900 to 5950u bios as well...
if anyone has them, please help....

The Gainward tool for downloading bios will only let you download bios for your existing card, not another card..."

You can get the bios files from the Gainward site (Germany in the location selection)

I can't get the file for Gainward off the link provided (just get a blank page) . I got a bios from Gainwards German site but it won't flash my card using the method given in the Gainward readme . Should I try to flash by typing 'a:\nvflash -f n5950u.rom -u -p' replacing the n5950u.rom with 5950E300.ROM (this is the file I got from Gainwards site)

to shay my friend,of course the 5900u is stable at the stock 5950 speeds.I never said it wouldent work. Why do you think they auto detect a higher clock speed?Well if you think the boards are the same with the exceptions of bios and cooling, please explain to me the reasons why a flashed 5900 is unable to match the highest stable o/c of a 5950?If it were just a bios flash and a cooling system change do really think the boys at nvidia would make a big deal out of the 5950 release?I doubt it.People arent dumb, atleast the ones who know a 475/975 is an easy o/c for an ultra.Go ahead try and match the 5950's max stable clock.Pray it doesent fry.

By the way,my o/c is 500/970 ,auto dected 520/1050 i the max.Again your right it is an unflashed 5900u.Please tell me why it is important to flash again? If I remember correctly my max o/c is the same as the 5950's hmmm, only difference is my 5900u isent hidding behind a flashed bios .

So again, :whip: But I will say this a real 5950 will run more stable at my max speed. The whole deal with comparing CPU o/c really doesent have any relavance. If your going to make a point about o/c please stay on the video card subject.there are forums for the cpu.I feel the video card O/C is a more sesitive mater.Hardly comparable to the cpu other then voltage.

The point is that you can take a $199 video card and turn it into the equal of a card double the price with some modification. Some manufacturers are really generous with their cooling setup, much better than reference, and at a certain point it's not the heat causing the inability to overclock, it's the voltage because the gpu needs more power to do more work. With some common sense you may not really have a FX5950u, but you have something better than a fx5900 definetely. It's not a bad deal having a card that can reach way above a card that's double the price's speeds just fine. Who cares if the other one can go faster at max, it's twice the price for maybe 5fps difference from the better overclockability.

Good point dude, and point proven.I have a 5900ultra though.I was just saying it isent worth the time for a bios flash.5900u will run just as fast at the same clock.I havent seen any evidence to prove otherwise.

Maybe you can't read right. I didn't say that the 5900's couldn't reach stock 5950u speeds. Mines reached them fine. But I'm talking about more Overclocking headroom. Did I say that the bios flashed 5900u could reach the HIGHEST overclock on a 5950? No. I said the bios flashed 5900u can reach the NORMAL(what most people are getting) overclocks with the 5950.

You're still not answering my questions. Why is it that most of the people including myself have gotten a higher overclock from the bios upate? Before I couldn't pass 500/950 without stability problems. But after the bios update, I can easily reach 540/1000 stable. Could it be the bios flash? I couldn't get it that high stable before?

Oh yes, the the auto detect is so accurate. Please run your non flashed FX5900u at 520/1050 on stock cooling for hours on real games and benchmarks before you try to argu that. Makes me wonder why you wouldn't run it at those speeds if it's stable since you seem to be running it at 500/970.

You must be the only person left who thinks the 5950 is so different from a 5900. Almost everyone will tell you that from a performance standpoint, the only difference between them is memory and gpu clocks. You must believe the R9800XT is much more than a speed bump from a r9800pro too eh. :D

The gpu on a video card is just a much more dedicated and powerful CPU for graphics. So overclocking it is the same as overclocking an AMD or Intel CPU. Besides the cpu, higher voltages on system ram also stablizes higher overclocks on it. So higher voltage on DDR ram on video cards also inherit the same benefit from higher voltage. Unless you believe that the ram on Video cards are so different from system ram.

And the point of Overclocking is to get the max performance with stability. I haven't seen a non flashed fx5900u on stock cooling reach 560/1000 stable. I have however seen a flashed 5900u run at 560/1000 stable on stock cooling.

All I got from my card unflashed was 520/1050 stable running Aquamark3 for two benchmarks, however, the 500/970 gave me a 53,511 score.Definatly wierd..lol :) Tell me where I can get the bios flash my card and then I will decide if changing my opinion is just. Thanks

Aquamark only? You really don't know how to test stability. Run 3dmark2k1se, 3dmark2k3, and some GPU intense games for a few hours. That's when you can say it's stable. Unless you play games for 10 minutes at a time.
