Why is the GTX 680 card replacement the GTX TITAN twice as much, when it follows the typical 30%-40% performance increase over the last gen. usually the replacement card is around the same price? Will the 670/650s replacement cards be twice as much too, so us budget gamers have to spend a min of $500 for a 670/650 replacement?
think you edited your post after I responded. the titan is based on the gk110 with 6gb of vram. tesla cards cost several thousand based on gk110.
to clarify the Titan isn't a replacement or the next gen card. it is just a newer top end card that's being released for enthusiasts. a bit of kepler history, the Titan is GK110, which was originally intended to be used for the 680, however, nvidia saw no competition from AMD at the time and decided to release their GK104 which was meant to be their mid-end cards as a 680, many thought they'd never see the a GK110 consumer card. Nvidia did just that. and it is not meant to be a replacement. GK110 is a full-blown kepler card, same architecture (generation if you would) as the 6xx series. and to be frank, nvidia can release it for whatever price they want, as its the fastest single gpu card in the market right now, with no direct competition. the 670 is not a replacement card for the 650, the 670 replaces the 570, which replaces the 470. and pricing has been very similar on release. the 650 replaces the 550, and so on. you also have to consider inflation and market pricing.
LOL so sick of hearing this year in year out The GPU market is the biggest joke since somebody said wheat was good for you, well, at least in the last 50 odd years.
I think the price is pretty fair tbh. My 4GB 680 was pricy aswell due to the extra memory. I believe it was 125 - 150 euros more expensive than the 2GB version. Now a new card, 6GB, do the math it's just the right price for their new product. And who says the Titan is a 680 replacement, it's a limited card. See it as a ARES.
Yet here you are on an enthusiasts site where you apparently willingly subject yourself to it. Semi-Accurate might be more to your liking. You can hang out with Charlie Douchebag.
lol Nvidia laugh at you, and **** themselves that people like me who have there eyes OPEN grow in numbers. Honestly, can't believe how clueless you all are your being taken for a ride http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4539314&postcount=4 Seriously... for £900 (ROOOOOOOOOFL) on a GPU ALONE we should be DEMANDING triple monitors at 120hz 120FPS with 4xAA FOOLS HONESTLY, WAKE, UP. I honestly do not mean to sound so disrespectful but it is frustrating when I can see so clearly and you all have blinkers on. I don;t know why I bother though, fanboys will defend there weak ass, overpriced new buys.
The price is insane IMO and this card has arrived almost a year after the GTX 680 so, like you say, it is normal to expect a 30-40% increase in performance, game depending, with each new generation of graphics card so the Titan looks really out of place in today's market. What will happen when NVIDIA release the true GTX 780 card that matches or exceeds the Titan's performance? Will we be expected to pay £825 for that too? If we don't then people who paid ridiculous money for the Titan are going to be miffed. That is my only concern from NVIDIA setting an £800+ price for a single GPU card. Having 6 GB of VRAM certainly doesn't bump the price up that much either. The Titan is a great card, no doubt, but when it comes to value for money it is poor because it costs more than dual card SLI/CFX setups but is not faster on average. I think NVIDIA have messed up the pricing on the Titan as I believe it should have been £500-£550 tops, making SLI/CFX more expensive but you're getting a little extra performance for that.
As far as I could find about information of GTX Titan vs GTX 780, the GTX 780 is ment to be around 20-25% max faster that the stock GTX 680. So in essence the GTX 780 will be slower than the GTX Titan and will retail at the "normal" high-end price point (replacing GTX 680). The GTX Titan will still be the fastest single GPU card and hellish expensive, but the GTX 780 will certainly close the performance gap between GTX 680 & GTX Titan.
Nothing more needs be said. Another year goes by and another GPU with a modest increase over last years/generation cards and Nvidia are making fools of us all and 90% of you people do not even know it, hell, you defend them with everything you have and then whine at me for trying to bring it to everybody's attention. £900 LMFAO.
Seriously I don't understand what the **ll people are complaining about ! yes the price is high !... But nVidia is doing EXACTLY what Intel and AMD have been doing for YEARS with their Extreme edition and FX-edition of CPU's. If you want the best there is and money is no problem, then they can deliver the finest of it all ! Yea £900 is helluva lot of money, but don't moan about it because it's target audience is not for the one who sits with a Core i5 3570K and goes after price/performance value. (no pun intended for i5 3570 users etc)
This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ nailed it imo,its not about the money its about what u have in your rig and Nvidia knows there is a place for them, thats why they limit them
I know full well I am wasting my time. But oh well.... Today, in 2013 - 1080p 60hz is a MODEST resolution. Many have or (wish hardware was avail to actually have) tripple monitor setups running at 120FPS.... actually.... F**K IT. I cba. Party on. Waste of time.
Have to agree with Mr.Turnip and Darren. Paying £900 for a gpu is pretty cooked. I could build a mid (almost high) end gaming rig for that and be able to enjoy games at circa 60fps (if you keep to 1080p)... Although if you already own something like a 690/680x2 and want the benefits of single gpu and you can recoup some money (or money isnt an object) I think it has a place..(am sure a lot of 680 sli owners wont bother as most say sli pef/scaling is fine). So on the other hand terry people arent necessarily completely mad for wanting one..
Go to the Titan section on Overcockers, and they've got mugs in there as well, must be trying to tell you something, they got the Gigas in for £960
