It's probably still a lottery. I wonder when those cards can realistically start to show up on regular basis. Probably not sooner than Q1/2014.

I'm pretty happy with the price-performance ratio of my 280x so this doesn't really bother me. for 299 this card was a good buy.

(possible) lower power consumption is a big deal for me, because I value silence over performance. Unfortunately I don't think I have the patience to wait for months when I am trying to play BF4 on 5850...

I believe the his turbo and msi gaming 280x's are xtl as I said earlier, and they 'coincidentally' run cooler lol

They are a bit more expensive too, though. Well, over here at least. But I guess I can always return the card if I don't like it.
The MSI even seems to have reference PCB, which is awesome.

I can find two variants of the card: ASUS R9280X-DC2-3GD5 clocked 850/6000, and ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 clocked 1070/6400, and was wondering if one of them could be the newer revision...

The ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 is a higher clocked version. The 'T' stands for Turbo.

Ironically Turbo doesn't mean faster, it's a form of air compression (and blah blah blah, lol). It's ironic because it runs hotter meaning the fans work harder.

But from what I can see in the article, XTL doesn't even exist. It doesn't make any sense.

But AMD specifically said it never existed?...

I got my xtl a couple of months ago. If you look at one of my posts I compared the bioses. Some said xtl, others didn't. I guess companies like HIS and MSI paid slightly more for the early stock, or the other manufacturers got a small discount on the XT2 variant.

If it's true after all, I guess with everything so horribly out of stock in last month, chances of getting a card with the new GPU are significant now.

I'm with Octopus on this, I would think you would likely get a new one now, due to the shortages the past month+...

Well, I sure will take it apart when I finally get it. Got Asus DC2T ordered (since 6th december, ffs), so really curious.
