Here we nicely and lengthy test the HIS Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB. A graphics card with 1600 tiny little sub-processors on that X2 hauling ass on your frame rate and that's the success of the Radeon...

Wow, an impressive card performance wise. Thanks for going back to the bar graphs Hilbert. No offence but the line graphs were freaking annoying to read.

Performance wise it's amazing (own one from saphire, it's the exact same card), just sad that some games plain don't work

Farcry two won't let me play at 1900x1200 have to go to 1200x1000 (whatever the exact number is) which is a no go on my bigass screen

Fallout is fine (and amazing) with it and well good old Warcraft 3 still works fine XD and for stalker clear sky it does shell out all the FPS you want :)

man this card is pure power, i love it, now if all the games would run on it like they should using both core's at full capacity..

Just a single X2. Best video I have gotten so far. Well done to AMD/ATi. Now if only we could see some AMD CPUs that were competitive at the top end.

That's exactly the reason why I bought two GTX260s instead. I was tempted to buy one of the 4870 X2s, but both the price and the game compatibility made me stay with Nvidia.

Once the drivers are updated and all the games work fine, this is going to be an even more impressive card...

    I'm a proud switcher (from a 7900 GTX) to an HD 4850. I'm upgrading to the 4870 X2 (it's coming very very soon :D).

Any suggestions..? Like... crossfire this 4850 with the X2? :p

    Probably won't work since I'm running XP X64 SP2.

Installed the X2, and it works very well :D

I put the 4850 into my AMD rig... no space in the Antec 900 for the 4850 :p

Nice review; but I'll never be buying ATI.
I missed a couple of topics/things in the review and it wasn't you fault Hilbert:

    - PhysX performance ( Havoc = Fail )
    - GPGPU performance ( eg: MD5 Hash check speed )

A folding test might be cool; but thats all there is for ATI GPGPU wise, very sad state of affairs....

I did saw a paper promise though, something with windows 7, ahhh yes DX11; out in 2010 and before that only on VIsta ? -> epic Fail !.
Oh yeah.... maybe NGOHQ hasn't finished the CUDA-ATI drivers because they bought and paid for by NV ? It sure is very quiet on that front.

What a terrible waste: 1600 uProcessors only used for gaming... again: a very sad state of affairs.

Isn't that the purpose of high end GFX cards? Gaming?

If you want more than that, go for the FireGL or Quadro cards. And give some proof that havok sucks.
I know i enjoy Havok much in Oblivion and HL2 and all the other games.

    1) How many games use PhysX again?
    2) GPGPU is done on this card, ever heard of Folding@Home? Just because it doesn't use CUDA, doesn't mean it doesn't have GPGPU features
    3) Nvidia PR department, is that you?
