I thought to make a separate thread about this where everibody can share their opinion/experience in different games and with different GPU(s).

As for the moment I have only Unigine I'll start with this:

    Unigine Settings:

    AMD Catalyst (11.1a) Settings:

Now regarding IQ. IMO below 4x the difference become slight visible and at 2x is obvious (FPS are visible in the right corner, CrossfireX is not active in Window mode therefore only 1-GPU is rendering)

    AMD Tesselation Level 2x
    [IMG]

    AMD Tesselation Level 4x
    [IMG]

    AMD Tesselation Level 6x
    [IMG]

    AMD Tesselation Level 64x (Normal)

Now in wireframe mode, but a few seconds back for better view:

    Tesselation Level 2x:

    Tesselation Level 4x:

    Tesselation Level 6x:

    Tesselation Level 64x (normal):

    ==========================================================

    3DMark 2011

    1) Catalyst Setting are as above.

    2) I have removed 6x Tesselation Level as the difference between even 2x and 64x is almost not noticeable.

    3) GPU Scores only are included, NO Physics score, NO total score as I want to avoid CPU influnce here. Details are to be seen in the print sceens or web links.

    4) CrossfireX is enabled.

    Details:

    Tesselation Level 2x:

    Tesselation Level 4x:

This function is a prototype, we need app profiles for them, 8.82 driver haven't these app profiles. Need to wait for them :)

The slider is a great addition since it lets us fine tune the performance.

Tesselation control looks great, excellent feature.

imo the 2x looks the best, who the **** would want to walk on that road (64x) so unrealistic. If more tessalation means bigger rocks then its stupid.

Can someone honestly say they actually see an difference between x6 screenshot and x64 ?

I mean obviously that's pretty damn unfunctional. 'prototype' yeah and question is not about how it looks but does it work.

i cant see it between x4 and x64 xP

my most fear about 6870 vs 470 was tesselation, and this solves it. Its not that i dislike tesselation, but i was fearing not able to use it at all on heavy tesselated games, or not disable. Now solved xP.

Tesselation is one of the things i hate the most along with PhysX and Havok.
So, this new bar is a pure win for me, but only when it start working like it should.

Thanks a lot for the comparison and benchmarking :D

4x is the best i think..
for the simple reason that you get almost the exact quality of 64x
but much more performance.. we dont really need 1 meter depth into the road or a wall for the cost of the performance.
great thing , also would be great if amd can work a solution like the load of detail for the tessellation , that fades in the distance. would be a great gain of performance and also.. in a large environment where there are mountains road and stuff everything tessellated if we cant see them they still drop performance , but if in the distance fades there's less load on the card and more performance. hope you understand what i mean coz my english is so bad ^^

Great thread! When I get up refreshed, I'll give AvP 2010 a try as that is only game other than Uniengine that I have installed now that is a tessellation show off. I will try to reinstall Lost Planet or Lost Planet 2 to see if the slider makes a difference.

I can see the difference but 4x looks sweet. Totally worth the fps boost vs the 64x.

Superb post mate. I've set it to 4x and happy days, massive performance posts and i can not tell the difference in IQ.

Its the AMD Optimized option which is awaiting the profiles, so doesn't work at present, the slider is fully functional. :)

Hardly, you have to really study the shots to notice, and the difference is minimal at best, i can't see you noticing while actually gaming.

Right now one can use 4X and not see much of a difference (if there is any at all). What are you looking for in particular?

It is pretty obvious that above 6x you have to zoom the picture to see a difference.:3eyes:

You can only see the difference in wire-mode between 6x and 64x lol.
